Where are the PS2s?
Posted by @ 11:46 AM, EST
FGN is reporting that you might have to wait until March (!)to get your PS2.
A bit of the article:

Some stores have started to take pre-orders again for spring 2001. A disbelieving consumer told FGN Online, "The clerks at Electronics Etc., Lynnwood, WA, told me that the next shipment of PS2s will arrive next spring. The store has said that people can now start pre-ordering the system."

And ordering online doesn't seem to be a better option, "I pre-ordered a PS2 at Outpost.Com on Aug. 4. When I talked to the company yesterday, it said that Sony gave a delivery date of March 1 2001."
Full article

Sony has previously stated that 100 000 units will be shipped each week...

Isn't everybody getting a bit tired of all this crap about the shortage of PS2's? Each and evry year it is the same marketing tool used to boost sales. Who the hell do these manufacturers think we are, a bunch of mindless vidiots?? It happenend with the lousy N64, again with the Dreamcast and now again with the PS2. If they haven't got their act together, let's help them a bit and stop buying untill they have enough stock. This is the prove of a lot of disrespect to gamers and a lot of the guys at Gamestores get along with the frenzy. Hey everybody, get a life. there's so much better things to do than sit and wait for PS2. Ofcourse I want one too but be honest does it mean that your "ancient"DC is now already outdated. Anybody mentioned Virtua tennis, Ferarri Challenge or Metropolis Street Racer. Tell me what's the difference with Ridge Racer V, bet you can't tell. And is there really anybody waiting for Tekken Tag Tournament If you want to enjoy some innovative gaming get Shenmue! njoy your live!

I think that it sucks that Sony cut their original shipment in half. I have been waiting for the system for at least 1.5 years, and now i have to wait till next year!

i think thjat they should split people up into groups say 20 or so so they can make it where the people who pay get one and the people who try to reserve don't also if you get any codes for armored core 2 please sdnd them to me .i got a ps2 . ^ ^

Hey I agree with #9 Someone is going to get hurt and end up sueing sony for millions. Instead of a first come first serve they should have you pay in full then e-mail you or mail you a letter that says "come pick up your ps2 it has arrived"! That way the 100 000 ps2's would be split up evenly and every1 would get one!!!

Well Sony will be sorry or at least non profitable for the next couple months letting sega dreamcast be one of the xmas presents on peoples list this year. If they are thinking of a release in spring then say dreamcast isn't bad at all. I'm a gamer and I have every system out there basically and dreamcast isn't bad at all, yes some differences in moves on some games that both systems have but for the money like me I have a dvd player which anyone can get very easily with a low cost. Yes you purchase convenience with a total package in the ps2 but dreamcast is somewhat for the exception of the dvd player a contender towards the ps2. Any remarks just email (this doesn't steer me from purchasing the ps2 but to keep from going crazy the dreamcast does me pretty good)

Don't believe all the doom and gloom from all the game sites. Stay away from places that take preorders. Those places are hopeless. Stick to the Walmarts, Best Buys, and Circuit Cities (also keep your eyes on Amazon.com and Buy.com. They didn't take any preorders and offer the systems online on a first-come-first-serve basis. Amazon even posts when they will put up their next batch.)

A family member just recently was in Best Buy as they were unloading their truck and got one for me just yesterday. No need to put a preorder in for next Spring, just keep checking the big electronic stores and you will get one before all those others that preordered.

tim in post #4 hit it right on. good strategy but poor execution. sony knows, as unfortunately not many gamers know, that they have everyone eating right out of their hands. I am surely a sony fan ( loved my psx for years) & I am on a waiting list for a new PS2. I am not suprised that something like this is happening (if its even true) because their luanch was so pathetic & thats just the way they are. you gamers stuck without PS2s should head down to the store & pick yourselves up a sega DC while you wait like I did. a machine thats easy to get, very affordable & reliable with tons of qualty games. you will not be disappointed. I know I wasnt. poor sony better luck next time 'green' hearted bastards.

I was one of the unlucky ones that did not get a Playstation 2. I waited at Wal-Mart and had the chance to get one, but I was shoved and throw out of the way in a mad trample of customers, I just hope they are smart enough to hand out vouchers next time, instead of risking the chance of someone getting hurt on their property.

Those who haven't got one yet and pre-ordered don't start worrying yet. I talked with a worker at an electroncis boutique near me in PA and they said they are still getting their shipments and got the 100,000 next shipment. He said that some of the places that might not be getting shipments are the smaller retail type stores,b ut as far as stores like electronics boutique and babbages will probably not be effected by it. I suggest checking with the store that you ordered your system from before you start getting made about not getting one till next year.

Hey guys, this whole thing is getting WAY overblown. I work for A Software Etc. and we got a shipment of PS2s in today. They are going to continue to come in every week JUST AS SONY SAID. Geez, they are taking pre-orders for spring because we are backed up til then. My store alone still has 300+ reserves to fill. If you were too stupid NOT to preorder one, then you will have to wait unless you camp Wal Mart every week. The internet is blowing this whole thing WAY out of proportion.

Can't you people see what sony is doing with the
ps2. I have never had one and don't want one. I
think they should get in a car and stop by George
Bush house and pick him up for a beer or two.

Sony is both brilliant and foolish.

They are brilliant for creating "free" advertising
and marketing surrounding the hype of the so-called
"launch" of PS2. For that they are wise. However,
their timing is so flawed that someone at Sony should
be fired! This is business 101 folks!

What Sony should've done is schedule this mock launch
in August, and let the hype develop until Thankgiving,
or perhaps the first week of December. Then flood the
market with consoles and give xmas shoppers plenty of
time to buy accessories, games, memory cards, etc.

As it is, they are bringing shoppers into the store, and
watching them walk away with Sega!

There is a part of me that still thinks Sony is holding
out bigtime. Could they really be so stupid as to open
the floodgates 1 month AFTER xmas?!?!?!?

Sony is clever; they know how to manipulate the market demand to increase future profits, even at the expense of consumer interests. I guess they could do anything they want since they're the ones that made the console.

I'm extremely unhappy with Sony's marketing of the PS2. How long has this been in the works. If they knew about the shortage why not delay the launch date until everyone could buy one. What about the software companies putting loads of money into their games for the PS2 and no one being able to buy them without having a PS2. Shame on you Sony.

For a company with as much sucess as Sony has had with the first playstation and how loyal fans of the game have been...I'm pissed the way they only shipped the amount they did...it makes no sense...so now you have people waiting...I love playstation and I can't wait for it to come out again whenever that happens...but i heard Microsoft is coming out with a system and i hope they put Sony out of business in the future for what they did to consumers. There no reason they couldn't hold back last weeks shipment and wait to let all consumer enjoy the system.
