Posted by @ 6:43 PM, EDT

Namco and Capcom held a joint arcade show today in Tokyo's industrial plaza to formally unveil their new projects. The show marked the playable debut of Tekken 4, Biohazard Code Veronica: Gun Shooting, BeePanic, and PachinGun amongst others. As expected, the highlight of the show was Tekken 4, shown in approximately 60% complete form. The game takes place approximately two years after Tekken 3, and the storyline centers upon Heihachi's scheme to clone the DNA of the devil from bloodstains left in the previous tournament. When his early efforts prove unsuccessful, Heihachi searches for a company who can carryout his apocalyptic plan. A full CG intro for Tekken 4 featuring Heihachi and Kazyua and providing a glimpse of the storyline was unveiled at the show.

Star Wars Super Bombad Racing review - Comments (0)

We added a review of LucasArts' racer:

There are shortcuts to be found in the limited number of tracks which you'll need to find in order to win but the overall reward of winning a race leaves much to be desired. The apparent lack of game modes is a real sticking point. There just isn't much to do and what you can do is rather boring. The pace of the game is too slow for a racer. A sense of speed is a must but this game just doesn't have it unless you can snag some speed boosts.

Triple Play Baseball review - Comments (0)
Posted by @ 12:54 PM, EDT
We added a review of EA’s baseball game:

Unfortunately the best looking PS2 baseball game is not the best playing baseball game. This all depends on your perspective and how you like your baseball games to play. Triple Play Baseball may try and sell itself as a well rounded game but what it comes down to is an arcade experience. This is not bad in itself if that is what you are looking for.

Tekken 4 Unveiled - Comments (2)
Posted by @ 11:26 AM, EDT
C & VG report's that Namco has finally released in-game screenshots of Tekken 4, one of the most awaited fighting games since TTT:

"The in-game shots depict Paul and Jin battling it out in a variety of locations including fecund jungle and sparkling metropolis. We have to say they’re not quite as mind-blowing as we’d hoped, especially in the light of the staggering beauty of Virtua Fighter 4, but we haven’t, of course, seen the game in motion so can’t fully comment on the visuals. What is for certain, however, is that Tekken 4 will feature interactive stages involving walls, trees and the like, adding significantly to the game’s depth. This is a feature that Namco has wanted to add into the series for years, but hardware has only just reached a level where it feels it can do it justice. We’ll have more on this as it develops, but what you really want to see is those shots, so whaddya waiting for? "

Posted by @ 3:37 PM, EDT

Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI) recently announced that it's planning on equipping its PlayStation 2 gaming consoles with the Java Virtual Machine (Java VM) by the end of this year. The incorporation of Java into the PS2 will enable users to run Java programs, including applet and i-Appli Java applications, on the console. The first batch of Java-enabled PS2s will hit stores in July.

SCEI also said that it is considering setting up a special service that will enable those who purchase the non-Java PS2 now to download the software for free when it later becomes available.

Arcade site Challenger HP has uploaded four new VF4 videos, all of which were taken at Sega's recent arcade Private Show. The most alluring of the videos showcase the white-haired Brazilian she-man doing a few of what we presume are her signature moves against numerous characters from the game and over different backgrounds.

Other videos feature Pai in a fight against Shun, two Akira's fighting over a leave-covered stage, and Akira duking it out with the newcomer ninja monk guy.
Videos:
Movie 1 - Akira VS Akira

Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex preview - Comments (0)
Posted by @ 6:41 PM, EDT
We added a preview of Universal Interactive Studios upcoming Crash Bandicoot game for the PS2.
Here’s a bit:

Sony's original Playstation mascot is looking to return once again with a brand spanking new adventure specifically made for the Playstation 2 format. Can Crash bring anything further to the table in terms of gameplay or visuals? According to Universal Interactive Studios, a resounding YES on both issues. Naughty Dog has passed the torch of the franchise over to UIS and has moved on to other Playstation 2 projects. Instead Traveller's Tales has taken over to bring Crash forward and into the next generation of gaming. From what has been discussed, Traveller's Tales will continue to utilize the gaming formula that has made the Crash series popular. Therefore, players can expect levels involving new vehicles, various puzzles and a few additional movements to add to Crash's repertoire.

A Shiny New GTA3 Movie Just For You - Comments (0)

At E3 last month we spent considerable time within RockStar's booth. As tough as it was tearing ourselves away from Rune, State of Emergency, and Smugglers Run 2, everyone seemingly gravitated to Grand Theft Auto 3. For those of you unfamiliar with the series, the game continues the series tradition of unabashed criminal mayhem. Shown in playable form, the game looked and played extremely well. In our short time with the demo version, we saw an old lady get mugged, a cop car stolen, and a tractor trailer driven into a river. Needless to say, we're looking forward to the finished version, expect our full preview soon.

Warriors Of Might And Magic review
Posted by @ 11:16 AM, EDT
We added a review of 3DO’s RPG, Warriors Of Might And Magic:

Run around, collect gold, health, and new items. Run around, collect gold, health and new items. Run arou- okay, you get the idea. The game is repetitive, and unoriginal. When you are first dropped into the game, you’re objective is unknown. You assume it’s to get out of the dungeon, but you don’t know for sure. After wandering around aimlessly, it is revealed to you that, sure enough, you need to get out of the dungeon. Stopping you from escaping are some slow zombies, and some really elementary puzzles. Are we to the point where pulling a lever isn’t even considered a puzzle anymore? I thought we were, but games like this keeping bringing it back to challenge your mind.
