Sony Boosts PlayStation 2 Production

With Xbox and GameCube headed to stores next week, Sony isn't going to take things lying down. The company is set to boost PS2 production to 2 million units, from 1.8 million units. SCEA chief operating officer Kaz Hirai reiterated to Reuters that the company has no plans to lower the PS2's $299 price point. "We're very comfortable with the price point," he said. Sony projects that it will have sold 10 million Playstation 2 units in North America by March 2002.
