Fatal Frame March 5th
Posted by @ 9:00 AM, EST
Tecmo announced it will be shipping Fatal Frame for the PS2 on March 5th.
Here’s a bit of the press release:

Called the "scariest game ever" by James Mielke, editor of Electronic Gaming Monthly, Fatal Frame features many interesting twists on the survival horror genre, beginning with its gritty real-life atmosphere. Based on a true story involving a cult in the mountains of Japan, Fatal Frame takes place in the haunted Himuro mansion and nearby surrounding area.

Because the majority of the game takes place in a dilapidated, haunted mansion, the designers were able to focus heavily on developing a creepy, unsettling game atmosphere, complete with darkened hallways, sticky cobwebs, and rotting staircases. The player-controlled flashlight illuminates some, but not all, of the nearby surroundings. It is barely enough to spot some of the wandering ghosts before they attack.

"I simply wanted to make the scariest game imaginable," stated Makoto Shibata, Chief Producer for Fatal Frame. "Having personally witnessed the dark world of evil spirits, I was not scared at all playing other competitor’s games … but when I play Fatal Frame, I truly sense the presence of spirits in the room."

Actualy yes I did notice a small similarity between Fatal Frame and the ring. espcialy the shot of Miku taking the well cover off and a girl being trapped in it, thats about it though.

Ok I'm on the second night of Fatal Frame and I've mannaged to piece together a theroy or two thanks to documnets found in the game and the big flow chart that is accumulated as you play through.

Number one I think that each time Kirie tuches you(Miku) that you are drawn farther back into the past, that would explain why the one staircase in the Fireplace room is broken on the first night and not the second. It also explains why the hole in the doll room floor is no longer there, and the planks in the abyss are un damaged. It also gives reasons why you can access parts of the mansion that were boarded off in night one.

Theroy number 2. Yea(the folkloist wife) is your mother. why she has two diffrent first and last names is beyond me, but this also leads into my next realization. You(Miku) are in fact Mikoto the folklorist doughter thought to be snatched by ghosts and went missing in the moutians. This explains why your three frinds The boy in the clock, the crawling girl and the girl trapped in the well were still there. The four of you were playing demon tag when Mikoto went missing therefore they were never discovered and were killed by ghosts in their hiding spots.

I remeber reading the news clipping about the girl in the mountians being found and haveing no memory of what happend and since her parents couldn't be found(father killed by ghosts and her monther hung from the cherry tree) She was then adopted and that explains her new name and the fact that she felt like she was being called back to the mansion. This also makes Mafyu her foster brother, unless thers a connection I havent disovered yet.

My final stament is more of a big question.

In a photo taken by Miku's mother it shows a picture of Mikoto standing next to a younger Kerie, She is clearly in the photo almost as though She's standing right next to Mikoto and they know eachother(she dose not look like just another ghost captued un knowingly by the camara. So what connection could Kerie and Mikoto have?

Also Why would the Older Kerie be trying to kill her while the younger is trying to help her?

Arn't they the same person in reality?

And one last thing, at times I question wether or not Kerie is actualy trying to kill Miku or just trying to get her attention like alot of the ghost in the game seem to be trying to do.

By the looks of it almost all the ghost in the game are just desperate for help to escape their own personal hell. And their power, espesialy Kerie's since she can Kill you in one tutch just overewhelms Miku Physicaly and mentaly causing her to die. So it seems she is literaly scared to death.

I'm not saying they're related...but did anyone notice the strange correlations between "Fatal Frame" and "the Ring?" Like the girl w/long horse-like hair covering her face and the well with the girl pulled in the backyard? Strange stuff...

I agree with Ed, Trunks is a moron and I remember stating it in an erlier post. Anyway I havent played FF in a while now but I'm thinking of starting over to see if I can do anything better then before. I still havent finished it yet but I want to, even if I have to use an FAQ to do it.

Anyone who thinks that Fatal Frame won't scare them is dead wrong. I'm 19 and I've seen alot of horror movies and they do nothing to me but this game keeps me on edge the whole time I'm playing it, it has alot to do with the creepy music and backround noise they put in there not to mention the lighting effectcs.

In closing I'd just like to say that if I could actualy see the real mansion that this game is based around I would go in just to see it and say I did it.

I've been looking for some info on the Himuro mansion, and found this site. I would just like to tell Trunks to shut up. "trunks" is the name of a dragon ball z charicter, and that show isn't to popular in japan. (Or in america, but whatever)
Plus, If you lived in japan, you'd speak japaneese, and even if you learned english, you wouldn't learn words like da bomb and other stuff like that. Plus, the ghost with long arms was a made up charicter on fatal frame, so, it couldn't have possibly attacked you.
now that Im done with that, for anyone wanting info on the mansion, the real mansion, I heard somewhere it was spelled Himura, not Himuro.

I know this may seem really messsed up, but im intrested in going to this mansion. Ive had a weird kinda sixth sense since forever, and no i dont really like to say i see dead people but, i do see spirits. I believe there is no such thing as a good spirits, just demons in rare form. I used to have one in my house that wasn't hostile, but its presence caused my body to freeze over and my chest felt dark(that sounds funny but, its the only way i can explain) after i repeatedly told my mother, she banished it with prayer. I know your all probably thinking im rambling on but its true. I also tend to bring them out when i enter peoples houses. When i started playing FF, i became so intrested in the fact it was stated as a true stoy. I guess you could say im a spirit hunter, i live to scare myself with these things. I really wish to know if this place is mapped, soon i will have a chance to go to japan, and the possibility to enter this mansion. IF anyone has pictures and what not of this place, and any true additional info, i beg of you please, answer. ^^

WOW, WOW ,WOW---- I thought this was a well
put together game. It would be nice to know
if it was real. I have to say that the story
was great. It really does not matter if it is
real because this is a wonderful game. Me and children work together at it. I am 34, my children are
9,10,16 and they are scared. My 16 year old
mostly. We do play at night with the all around
sound. We just don't know what to do when you
get the blue signal and nothing happends. Even
if you look through your camra nothing happends
We are stuck:(:( We don't know how to get off
this bord? where the numbers are........
It has been nice talking with you all... I
really beleive that anything that has a realness
to it , like ghost is scarey......bye jean

during my recent travels to japan, i did happen to come across this very mansion, one night, me and my friends decided to play a game and spend the night at this pacticular mansion, located about 20 miles outside tokyo, it has been abandoned for years... we explored this place, as eerie as it was, and unlike the game, it was still in good shape. however there was some supernatural activity going on... i didnt exactly SEE any ghost, to let you know, i have played the game to a certian extent until i had to put it down, i can say that the floor plans are almost identical... there however wasnt a demons mouth or underground, the doors stopped at what was called "rubble room" which ended up being a tomb, at this mansion, we did take pictures, no spirits showed up, i dont have any picures to give you, but you could probably look on the web to find some, it is a very popular legend in japan, however, in one of the coriddors, i heard a man crying comming from the "tatami room" as it said it was, it was identical to the mansion. me and my airforce buddies ran to see what it was... but nothing was there, we decided to all camp out in the tatami room, there was no electricity to the mansion, it has been abandoned for decades, i hadnt sleep for over 30 minutes when i was awoken by my friend Brandon, he was the youngest there, 19, he was frightened, terrified, his eyes were open wide and he said, "i just saw ghosts", the rest of the 5 of us, were awaken and we talked, finally it was decided to leave after brandon described a woman with a broken neck weeping with rope marks on her wrists and neck, i mean could you blame us?
after doing some research, the mansion had belonged to 2 unknown familys in the past. it is rumored that the 1st family had been brutally murdered altough no one knows why and there has been a series of underground tunnels and such, funny i didnt happen to come across them, the story of the tree in the cherry auttom is different, the cherry auttom didnt seem to have such a tree, but there is a tree rumored in the same area to have caused accidents. it is said that 2 lovers used to meet under it every night, they werent allowed to see each other because of social standings, the woman became so sad that she hung herself, one day a man chopped the tree down(hoping to end its bitter tradition) and shared the wood with his family, they have mysteriously disappeared, i do think the game exagerated with the plot, but yes the house is real and so are some of the legends that come up in notebook findings in the game... if you have any more questions, feel free to email me or im me, thank you

Hey you gamers! I'm from the Tecmo Fatal Frame Forum and just to let you know, that Takamaro Himuro guy was a fluke. Some people fell for his BS but I and some others called him out when he treaded on some of our areas of profession. Needless to say he couldn't back anything up, too many "coincidences" came up and he became hostile and vulgar when politely asked deeper questions that wasn't in TECMO's article about the 2 folklores the game was based off of.

Also to Trunks that posted about living in Japan and you actually went to the Himuro Mansion....I have to tell you that "Himuro" Mansion itself doesn't exist, however there is a mansion with another name to it that the game was based off of. If you do live near there and have been there before, than you know the real name. Can you please tell me what it is and where it's located exactly? Just for reference sake. ;)

Anyways, FF is a great game! Glad to see many people loving it! Take care everyone!

Much love,
Nef

But now I want to know more about the place it was based on I heard that if you did a lot of different things that you could find outrageous things to be true like taking a picture of a certain window you'd see a young girl or the fact that carcuses were found with missing limbs or something like that around the area of the mansion. Is any of this true?! Trunks if your telling the truth could you possible send me some pics too???

I love Fatal Frame it's quite hard though, every singel time I play that game I'm on edge the whole time and somtimes don't want to go somwere I know I have to. Tecmo sure did a good job with it.

Hey Trunks If you do live in Japan and Himuro is real, that has to be one of the most active haunted places on earth, hey is there any way you can Proove it to me, like pics and stuff, I'd love to see them,or you could tell me where in Japan the mansion is. After hearing all the stuff about it, I thought of going to check it out, I've always wanted to go to Japan anyway but after reading what you posted I might rethink it. And if I could land a part in the Fatal Frame movie that would be cool, but it won't happen after all I'm just a young man who'd love a shot at real acting but won't get it.

Anyway in closeing, I'd love to at least See Himuro Mansion. And Trunks good luck in your serch of the place, don't go alone and don't seperate a group. and If Kirie is real and she did tutch you I comend you, you're lucky to be alive.

of course you could be liying about all of it. which is a possability, If you're not send me some pics of the manson through e-mail.

I got some infor on the true story that Fatal Frame is based on. The part about the camera was made up for the game but the part about the mansion was real. There is a mansion outside of tokyo where several people were killed. The house resembles the one in the game and is said to have an underground area where people have claimed to have seen small bloody hand prints on the wall. Many ghost sightings have been seen there and a small girl in white shows up in one of the widows in some of the photographs. I got the from the newest Official Playstation Magazine. Hope it answers some of your questions.

The clock puzzle for the english game is 1312 for the japanese game it's 1213, something to do with how the message with the answer in it is writen, anyways. The numbers are in order but it's a backwards clock. The one is at the nine, counter clock wise, yeah. Anyways. If you match one of the symbols in the research notes with one on the clock thing it will be really easy.

I too would like to know more about the true story this game is based upon.
Also, I suggest playing this game at night in surround sound... or even better with headphones on. You can hear everything like floor creaks and spooky noises so much better! This isn't just a game, this is anecperience in horror and suspense. Lock your doors and light some candles.
The only problem I have with this game (and it's not really a game problem) is the book it came with. The images and text is too small.

The title says "based on true story", right? So, is anyone out there know where I can find this story? Or is it something they've put to make the game more appealing?

Anybody know how to open the door with the clock-like puzzle? You have to choose 4 symbols to open it... I'm reaching now... :)

This game is really awsome. I like the fact that unlike other survivol horror games this one keeped me spooked all the time. If it's not a ghost it's the creepy ass music, this game kicks ass
