True Crime: Streets of L.A. announced

Activision recently announced True Crime: Streets of L.A. for the PS2, xbox and GameCube.
Heres a bit of the press release:
"Mission-based driving and action adventure collide in this bold new direction for interactive entertainment," states Larry Goldberg, executive vice president, Activision Worldwide Studios. "Infused with the unique flair of Hong Kong action films, True Crime: Streets of L.A. allows players to experience first-hand the car stunts, close calls, quick wit and high-action that are synonymous with this distinct style of cinema."
Developed by Luxoflux, the creators of the successful Vigilante 8 series, the game blends multiple genres into a single cinematic action game. Car chases, shootouts, foot pursuits and hand-to-hand combat are all in a day's work when it comes to taking down the mob. More than 20 branching missions and 100 sub-missions lead gamers down dozens of possible paths and outcomes. Busting a robbery could tip players off to a future crime, or a foul-up could just as easily get an informant killed. As players cruise the mean streets, random missions can also pop-up on the car radio adding even more gameplay to the immense adventure.

| This game looks like it's going to kick ass, and personal the people at Activision look like they have already done GTA3, but what they need to wonder about is what the people around the world are going to think about True Crime when you compare it to the newest installment of one of my favorite games of all times, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, Right now, I'm undecided, because Vice City seems to run hand in hand with my favorite movie, SCARFACE, which was based on Cubans, Drugs, and more in 1980's Miami Florida... GTA3 isn't a threat, but I'm afraid for loyalists to Rockstar Games and the Playstation 2 Console, Vice City is the better way to go and I've played it, True Crime will have to be as good as it looks to outdo GTA: Vice City in any part of the game... | |

| Mortimer, yes this game will hopefully have your friends house in if the camera crew did a good job with the virtual photo-taking. It has all of the main area of Hollywood and Beverly Hills, then a Freeway that can take you all the way up to the activision control center, set in Pasadena. The boss of Activision wanted the head office in Pasadena as he lives there So we decided to do all of downtown BH and Holywood as well as a short ride up to Pasadena where you can also experience a small town in LA aswell as tinsletown. You may also find a small area of San Marino (BIG big houses) included as the photogropher sent down to Pasadena thought seeing as San Marino is right next to Pasadena, what the hell and he started shooting San Marino until he ran out of film. Then the digi-crew went down there and filmed the whole area to turn it into computerised world and they followed the photographers footsteps and filmed San Marino also. Jayvision, If you come back can you tell me exactly what part of LA it is set in, Because I have friends over in LA and it would be cool to drive past their house, if the game is as well replicated as you all sy it is. | Houdini, This game is inevitibly the best game that ever will hit the shelves in the years 2002-03. As I work on the Activision team I have been working on this game and it is my job to ensure the game is up to speed. I don't understand how you and bogarth have got hold of copies to play the game as only people on the Acivision Worldwide or Luxoflux inc. teams have been given copies. I'm sure you can understand that being a very complicated game and as it is not yet completed there will be flaws. I myself have noticed the lack in cooperation with the button pressing of the bullet time mode. That is one of the many things tht will have to be cleared before release, you can understand that when the game is released it will be in top form and every game glitch will be sorted; plus any game surfers out there who feel they can only complete a game with cheats, well you are in luck. We have decided to add in many cheats including a Tank, the all new wrist flinging spider webs, and of course- invincibility, unlimited ammo etc. For those who can complete games with their own will power, there will be a special added item at the end when you complete the game that you cannot unlock if you use a single cheat in the game, and there will definitly not be a cheat to unlock it, so look forward to that. You can also look forwards to Team SoHo's the Getaway that is set in today's London and beleive me, it is very well worth the money to buy it. It doesnt take too long to complete, I took about a week, but then again I completed GTA3 in 3 days, so it would last any amateur gamer who spends every living day trying to complete the FF legend a good 4 or 5 weeks to complete. Good stuff. To answer your question ice, the game is still 'under the knife' shall we say, and is still going through vigorous checks to be released hopefully sometime between November 2002 and November 2003. As you can fully understand, a Christmas release is a most profitable release so November is perfect time for release. If the game is not completed (and neither rushed) by this November, then the crew will be cramming in the hours next January I'm sure to be definite of either a Summer (June-July) release or November 2003. I hope this has cleared a few things up and I do wish that bogart and houdini could contact me as I would like to know where you got the primitive copies of the game due for November. Thankyou for taking the time to read this and I'm sure any fan of GTA3 and Max Payne will surely have a great time roaming round the newly additioned 550 square mile (thats right- 550 square miles compared with the Getaways 43 square miles) game. | yo, bogarth, you need to calm down with this game man. I've played it also but I didn't find it all that awesome. I admit that the producers have really got LA covered and as I know the area well I know that it has been almost exactly replicated, but I found the controls a little sluggish. I was trying to do the jump to car stunt and was trying to jump from the top of Fred Segal into a nice chevvy but was sadly disappointed when I pressed the bullet mode button It only started moving slowly after I had jumped. By then it was too late and I was lying messed up on the road with several men shooting at me. After that I can honestly say it was only a 6/10. |

| I've now played this game and I can announce that it is the best game i have ever played in my entire life! Apart from being able to do John Woo style acrobatics in bullet time mode you can zip in and out of Hollywood and Beverly hills or settle down to the suburban mansions of San Marino and Pasadena. Overall, when this game is released it will get swept off the shelves! | |
