Paine Webber Talks PS2 + News Bits

"Paine Webber analyst Chris Dixon recently expressed his thoughts on the future of Sony.

He went on to say that the current installed base of the DVD market is somewhere around 5 million. With the release of the PlayStation2, however, this number is expected to radically increase. In the coming year alone, analysts predict the DVD market will nearly double, most of which is attributed to the release of the PS2.

Taking this into consideration along with Sony's continued dedication to cutting costs, Paine Webber has labeled Sony's stock a sure buy, even if the price is considered astronomical for most investors."

The system's designer, Goto Yusuke, believes the system should be operated in the vertical position. But to be able to have the PS2 in that position you will need to buy the necessary vertical support stands separately at launch. The vertical stands will retail for approximately $19.

Considering the PS2 is DVD based, SCEI recently spoke out regarding the implications of the PS2 as a component in the 'home theater experience.' In particular, SCEI has confirmed that the PS2 can be hooked up to proper home theater amp's to create 5.1 channel surround sound.
