Sony Computer, Not Intel or SGI, leads in LSI Technology, CEO Says
Posted by @ 2:19 PM, EST
Found this informative interview with Sony CEO Mr. Kutaragi, it is dated Dec 2nd, guess I missed it…
Anyway here are few slices:

"Nikkei Electronics: Is the LSI technology used in video gaming machines on par with that used in PCs and workstations?

Kutaragi: It is already better. Even in terms of the number of transistors and the complexity of the control circuitry, the Emotion Engine chip that will be used in the PS2 is far superior to Intel's Pentium III.

Q: But Intel plans to keep on improving the performance of its chips in accordance with Moore's Law.

A: The fact of the matter is that the pace at which ever more integration can be carried out on microprocessors is starting to slow down. If you contrast that with the rapid speed at which game machine LSI technology is improving, then it is obvious which will become the technology driver of the future."
