The Analysts Speak
Posted by @ 7:30 AM, EST
Core found an interview with two former PlayStation magazine executives. They talk a bit about the PS2.
Here’s a slice:

"Question: What are your thoughts of the PlayStation2?

Aizawa: I think the PlayStation2 looks great.

Yamamoto: Perhaps, but the software so far doesn't.

Aizawa: Well, I think it has potential. It will be capable of doing games that look like the movie 'Toy Story' in real-time.

Yamamoto: I agree, the hardware is impressive. But quality software isn't dependent upon graphics. Many developers are going for the realistic look now. Why not just buy Square games more then? Of course beautiful graphics are possible with the added power of the PlayStation2, but graphics won't make the system succeed.

Aizawa: I understand Yamamoto-san's opinion, saying the first PS2 soft's aren't impressive. Personally though, I'm a 3D fanatic, so I'm very excited with the capabilities of the PlayStation2. I think games which will optimize the power of the CPU, and games which will only be available on the PS2 are important, like Den-sen. The most important thing is the idea. New ideas for games are important for the PlayStation2, not just enhanced graphics."
