Square announced they will be working with Disney to a 3D action game for the PS2. The game is will feature Disney characters and original characters designed by Nomura Tetsuya (the character designer for Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy VIII, and Parasite Eve).
The title is supposed to be “Play Online compatible” (Square’s Online network thing), so it can be played stand alone or online.
It is schedule for a 2001 release in Japan
Here’s a movie taken from the festival, a smooth rendering of the Disney character, Goofy.

Thanks to Gamespot for the info and thanks to Dailyradar for the movie.

Konami announced that three of their PS2 games, Gradius III&IV, Mahjong Yarouze! 2, and Eisei Meijin IV, will be released April 17 in Japan.
Thanks to Gamespot for the info.

Capcom Shows Off PS2 Titles
Gamespot also posted an article with some info on Capcom’s upcoming PS2 games.
Here’s a bit:

"After Onimusha, a new action adventure game entitled Maximo was shown. Mr. Okamoto said the game will be reminiscent to Ghost and Goblins, but in a 3D environment. The art for the game is done by Susumu Matsushita, the cover designer of Famitsu, the Japanese gaming publication."

Some PSX game might look better on the PS2..
posted some interesting info.
A slice of their article:

"One of the features you'll be given when booting up existing PlayStation titles on PlayStation2 is to add extra texture mapping to the code. The bottom line? It looks better. That's pretty much all you need to know.
Unfortunately, not all games on the market at the moment will enjoy compatibility with PlayStation2's polygon glossing. The guy on stage showing the feature even joked, "You can have fun finding out which of your titles won't crash here".

Dead or Alive 2 impressions
From :

"It was enough to raise the hairs on the back of your neck. Crashing along to heavy rock music Dead or Alive 2 was one of the catches of the show, proving to be far sharper than the Naomi version currently laying waste to Tokyo's arcades.

The fighter's motion blur was shown off to excellent effect, as were the game's castle and cityscape levels. Cinematic panning shots and camera work straight out of the movies in the cut-scenes made for one of the most impressive showings of the event, although some attendees claimed it looked exactly the same as the Dreamcast version."

La Vita Continua for PS2 announced
ASCII announced the adventure game La Vita Continua.
Screens of the game have appeared in Japanese press, so expect some scans on the web soon.

Comment: When isaid i hate nintendo for its stupid games i mean childish and mario(character) as well as Yoshi ,Mario golf e.t.c.I liked Goldeneye ,Zelda starfox and Mario as games.Dont forget to read my comment i wrote before this one

Comment: Ok you are right Kituka. Nintendos games are some of the best ever.BUT,many people said Metal gear solid was the greatest game ever made.I playied Final Fantasy,Metal gear solid ,Mario and Zelda.Zelda is a great game but the excitement i had wasnt enough to impress me and some of my friends.Final Fantasy7 and 8 were also the greatest games ever when they were first realesed.
Mario also is a very remarkable game but the gameplay is very common now.New platform games look and play as good as Mario64.Crash didnt impress me as a game. The character and graphics are very close to mario64.Crash is easier to play and Mario64 is more compex.I didnt like Crash as much as Mario64.Thats why i didnt mension crash as a game but us a character.I still here Tekken3 is the best fighting game ever and gran turismo the best driving after gran turismo2.
I only heard Mario64 as the best game when it was first released. After some weeks (as i said before) its success droped very low. Also you mentioned only 2 succesful nintendo games. And the reason why there are many sequels is because people WANT SEQUELS.Zelda and Mario are old games too. Both games had sequels but nobody feels those games are old because they changed their forms from 2D to 3D and after their transformation there werent any sequels.Who said people dont want Mario64 2 or Zelda.?Metal Gear solid has revolutionary gameplay never seen before in an action games. It also introduced a new genre called Stealth type games.Gran turismo also have revolutionary gameplay as its the most realistic driving game ever. Its the game that revolutonised the way people see driving games. In EDGE only gan turismo and another game i dont know which it is, got 10/10.Fran turismo also won a programming award.Yes Tomp Raider is starting to get old.But the changes between the first and the last tomp raider games are enough to make people excited. To tell the truth I hate wrestling games.Resident Evil 1 2 as well as Nintendo games made it to the Guines records.Resident evil 3 is ready againg for a reentering to Guines as its sales are rapidly increasing.I playied Resident 1 2 3 and finished them all noticing each game has its major differences.Dont forget I like nintendo games but i hate Mario as a character.Zelda has revolutionary gameplay.Final Fantasy game have too.If an rpg doesnt have revolutionary gameplay then its not an rpg or atleast its not a succesful rpg.Games that developers didnt enjoy creating in my opinion is Dino Crisis and Tomp raider.Thats why Dino crisis is very similar to Resident evil 1 and Tomp Raider s big differences between previous Tomp raider games are the graphics.
By the way I hate Virtua Fighter.Did Nintendo create a good fighting game that atleast is as good as Segas VF?

Comment: Irvin, you made a very good argument. Square, Namco, Konami, etc. all make fantastic media, but I still have to say Nintendo makes the BEST games. Final Fantasy, Tekken, Metal Gear Solid, the Ridge Racer series, and etc. are all fantastic games, but whenever a new Mario game or a new Zelda game is released critics all over the world scream "Hallelujah!!!!" Many people to this day still say Super Mario 64 is the finest videogame ever produced. Do you ever hear the same thing said about a Final Fantasy game, a Tekken game, a Metal Gear game, a Ridge Racer game, a Sonic game, a Virtua Fighter game, a Crash Bandicoot game, a Resident Evil game, a Tomb Raider game, etc? These are all fantastic games, but they NEVER introduce revolutionary new gameplay ideas, etc. Zelda earned a perfect score in Famitsu Magazine, and yes, I know Soul Calibur and Chrono Cross did also. But Soul Calibur and Chrono Cross have never been dubbed "best videogame ever," yet Zelda and Mario have. Why do you think this is? All the critics around the world couldn't have been paid to say the same thing, could they? And another thing- do we really need another Ridge Racer, another Final Fantasy (this series has gone stale a couple years ago- are very much different from the masterpieces on the SNES), another Gran Turismo, another Tomb Raider? Sure as fucking hell we don't!!! They never introduce ANYTHING new and revolutionary, and are made PURELY for profit. Nintendo, and Shigeru Miyamoto in particular, take joy in game-making and develop games because of their love for them and because they want all generations of gamers to enjoy their products. Honestly tell me that Tomb Raider is NOT starting to get old. How about Resident Evil, or all those wrestling games? Nintendo's flagship games, on the other hand, always come with intuitive new gameplay ideas, new levels of interactivity, etc. Believe what you will or what you want to, but as for me and other Nintendo gamers, we know quite well who makes the BEST games.

Comment: It depends on opinion and sales as to whether nintendo is the best game developer. In sales nintendo's games kik the third parties' ass especially pokemon right now(I think Pokemon red and blue alone have sold more copies than the entire final fantasy series to date). And in terms of opinion(my opinion of course) i'll have to agree with kituka, while alot of their games are "kiddish" they are still fun. And ya i like classic nes and snes games better than games nowadays but the new platforms open up a lot of intreaging ideads like internet play and the amount of customization and detail you can put into the new games(if you take the time, which is why i think nintendo games are great, they take time to add detail and anyting they need to fix...but delays still suck.) In the end i think that nintendo makes awesome games, but the wait time in between, is awful(and is what made the n64 suck).

Comment: I have to disagree with kituka about Nintendo being the best game creator.
The best fighting game ever is tekken3.Others say TekkenTagTournament and others SoulCalibur.Nintendo 0- Namco 1
Square is the best rpg developer ever. All squares rpgs are the most classic especially the FinalFantasy series.Zelda is also succesful but the FinalFantasy games are better.Thats hy there are more FF sequels.Nintendo 0-Square 1
ALso the best racing game is from Polyphony Digital(gran turismo) which is a new company with not as much gaming expirience as Nintendo.Nintendo 0-PD 1
The best adventure games are Tomp Raider and Metal Gare solid which was held as a classic before it even made it to the stores.Nintendo 0-Konami & eidos 1
etc
Want more?Take alook at Mario and his world.Everythings to stupid and childish.Always mario must save the princess.Cant he do anything else?He should change his appearance too.Sonic and Crash are better characters than Mario & Luigi.
Only in platform games Nintendo is a winner (not exactly as Sonic was and he will always be a better character and have a better platform game).Sonic is the only reason why i like Sega and i hate Nintendo because of its stupid games and mascot.Nintendo has always been liked because of new technology that introduces graphics that have never been seen before in a game.Dont forget that mario after some succesful sales at first, some weeks later the sales droped very low.People found out that marios graphics were the only thing they should be happy.

Comment: As much as I love Sony I must speak out on Nintendo's behalf. Whether you'll admit it or not, Nintendo churns out the BEST games on the planet. Their games are classics, and I'd still pick the original Super Mario Bro's over any of Sony's new technical marvels. Don't be so quick to jump to conclusions: Dolphin will be so fucking powerful and will have so many developers making games for it that you'll wonder why the hell you ever put it down. Go read the specs for it (the specs we have so far)and you'll see a real monster taking shape, a monster that will eclipse PS2 in every aspect.

Comment: Dreamcast SUCKS, and so will Dolphin and X-Box! Would you rather be whooping on someone as Jin Kazama in TTT, or playing the latest Mario game? That's what I thought. Let me guess, the next Mario game will be entitled "Super Mario 128." Whatever. Mario sucks anyway! He is a freakin' fat plumber!!! Give me a break. Anyways, as you can tell, I hate Nintendo the most! Well, thats enough rambling for now. SONY ROCKS!!!

Didnt Bruce Lee also invented Jeen Kwon do?

Just wait you Virtua Fighter fans when TekkenTag Tournament arrives and Tekken4 on PS2.

Comment: I agree with you Tim- The Matrix is THE coolest and most kickass movie to come out in years. Bryan Singer, director of X-Men: The Movie, is taking every step to make sure X-Men doesn't turn into the next Street Fighter movie. From what I've seen in the trailer, it's going to rock big-time. The Wolverine vs. Sabertooth scene at the top of the Statue of Liberty was just awesome. As for the NES, it still is king of gameplay like you said.

Comment: Wow! That's about all I can say. I'm not a huge racing fan, but from the screen shots and movies, RRV and GT2000 will make me one. Everything I've seen about this system makes me want one more each day. I'm actually jealous of the japanese getting their's in 2 weeks. Maybe I'll just move over there. At any rate, how could anyone argue with Matrix OR an X-Men movie? X-Men was and probably still is the best comic book on the block (don't know anymore, quit reading it a long time ago). It would take the likes of the team who put together the Street Fighter movie to mess this one up. The Matrix is one of the most impressive movies I've seen in a long time, it just blew me away. Plus I like laughing at the people who don't get the concept. Sony has left me with some good memories, but the original nintendo still takes the prize. Nothing quite as good as Bionic Commando or Blaster Master and for you RPG fans, get Faxanadu for Nintendo. I'd go on an 8-bit adventure anyday.

Comment: You didn't like the X-Men trailer? What the hell are you smoking? As for the Matrix, it's the best movie ever. The sequels, set to come out months apart in 2002, will absolutely kick ass. As for Dark Cloud, you're definitely smoking something if they look like N64 shots to you. They look unbelievable, especially the group shot. Besides, pictures can't even compare to seeing the game first-hand on your television set.

Comment: Some of the images show incredible detail and polygon count, but they all look a bit bland in the texture department. Too sterile. And I thought some of the landscaping in Dark Cloud looked a lot like spruced up N64 shots. How about using the PS2's polygon crunching ability and use smooth curves to represent varying levels of elevation in the ground? As for the X-Men trailer, I could've pulled a better one out of my arse. The Matrix's trailer puts it to shame. Very lame stuff.

Comment: Well, everybody, by now it shold be clear to everybody that the PS2 will..........KICK SERIOUS ASS!!!!!! Damn just look at the screenshots (Dark Cloud, at least to me, looks better than PS's rendered movies!!!!!!!). So, come on all my fellow Sony-holics, lets get some feedback going. Oh yeah, after seeing the screenshots for PS2 from the Festival, I've honestly could give a damn about Dolphin, X-Box, or DC2. This is only first generation software and it already blows the doors off anything I've ever seen. Imagine what fourth and fifth generation PS2 software will look like!!!!! By the way, have you all seen the X-Men trailer yet? It's the SHIT, let me tell you. They show some Wolverine in it, so it's a definite must see. I can't wait to play Matrix and X-Men on DVD on my PS2!!!!
