Comment: Hi Mr?, thanks for facts and a different view on things. Good point about how different the game developers are. Personally I agree with you that good creators come from Japan. I often wondered why there wasnt any game like mario for the PC, or any Tekken like game. Maybe its because the PC developers had less experience to develop or is it that the profit is bigger for console games and therefor games get a bigger develop budget. Another point is that of how big Sony is. Didnt they start to explore the movie buissiness by bying Columbia. Music was another branch they started to explore. I always thought Sony was really big, even in money. Anyone knows how big Microsoft is valued compared to Sony?

Firstly you may all be right to be scared of Microsoft, they do have a shit load of cash, and hold an awful lot of peole in the industry in their sway. I used to work for Psygnosis in Liverpool GB, and I have to say Sony didn't just romance or suck up to us, no they bloody brought us out just like that. Microsoft could do the same I suppose with other companies, but all of you are forgetting something, the best games producers in the world all hail from Japan. Now in Japan the PC is about as popular as a Tsunami at a golf course (not very). Japanese developers don't like the system. Most of them also dislike the Dreamcasts operating system, which let it not be forgotten was developed by Microsoft. But all this is spurious anyway, as far as most people I know in the industry are concerned, the X-box does not exist, and if it does its only on paper, the GEforce graphics chip is only one of many possible graphics cards which could be used, and even this doesn't scratch the power of PSX2. The rumours of a 1000MHZ processor!!!!!!!!! So fucking what for speed in MHZ, the latest PIII's shit on the emotion engine in this department, however the emotion engine is tones better because of the FPU's it manages and the sheer amount of GFLOP's it pumps out. In short it's imense. These are the reasons many in the industry don't give a fuck about Nintendo's Dolphin. They have annouced diddly squat of any worth so far, and just to correct SHAWN Nintendo and IBM aren't merging you dolt, just like Nintendo isn't merging with NEC or Panasonic you divy. IBM will produce the CPU for the Dolphin (a version of the powerPC chip), NEC will produce the graphics chip designed by ArtX for Nintendo and Panasonic will provide the DVD drive, now that should clear up that rumour. Nintendo would rather die than merge, the Kyoto based company NCL is the most fiercly independent company on the planet. FACT. But something many people are over looking at the moment is that Sony is the only company with the ability to design its own system all by itself (true it needs help from Toshiba to build it) Sega needed Videologic, Yamaha, Microsoft, Nec and Motorola to get its system done. Nintendo need IBM, NEC and ArtX, as for Microsoft, they are a software company and have no hardware experience at all, and as such they would need a third party company to build and brand the system, maybe Compaq or someone, I don't know. This is where Sony's strengh lies it may be smaller than Microsoft, but its more diverse, it can throw a hell of a lot of technical skill from a lot of areas at its PSX2. No other company in the world can do what they can, remeber they didn't only just help invent CD and DVD, no they also make films like the Matrix to run on it and own bands that we all love to listen too, Sony are big, maybe not in monetary terms compared to Microsoft but certainly in skills, Do not underestimate the power of PSX2 and Sony.

Comment: I hate to digress in this topic since this thread has nothing to do with the PS2 Festival topic, but it�s just too interesting to resist. My opinion (and take it as just that) is that the X-Box could be a true threat to consoles (Nintendo, Sega, and Sony) as we now know them. The console world and PC world are converging (like it or not) similarly to the way the gaming and movie/entertainment worlds are. I think this is Microsofts way to help accelerate this convergence. For the price we pay now for one computer, you could possibly buy several X-Boxes for each room of the house and probably some central storage system. You could surf, play games, or do whatever while eating at the breakfast table or in the bathtub (oh yeah, cant wait for this one,� Kidding). I also think that Sony has the same idea to an extent with all of the non-gaming capabilities PS2 has and the added hard-drive coming out next year only reiterates this notion. But anyhow, again my opinion, what do you guys think?

To Irvin, you're absolutely correct about the 500 Mhz. I've read and seen articles that said that it would have a 500Mhz also, but the 1000Mhz processor is far more likely because the Emotion Engine is a phenomenal workhorse. If you all want proof of the whole 1000Mhz processor deal (actually it's more like rumors at this point, but is highly possible), go to gamefan.com, type in X-Box in the search box, and click on the Feb. 17 news story. You could also go to totalvideogames.com or to totalgames.net and find the same story. Like I've said before, I ABSOLUTELY CANNOT WAIT TO GET MY PS2!!!!!! Just thinking about loading up Dark CLoud or watching the Matrix and X-Men: The Movie (which will be out on DVD by the PS2 launch in the U.S.)makes me want the thing even more. Oh well- I guess good things come to those who wait.

I got some questions:

I hear Microsoft has no game experience in game development. But wasnt that the case for Sony when they launched PS. What they did was sucking up good companys like Psygnosis and others (Just what I heard). Plus they got Namco as a big partner. Why couldnt Microsoft do all that too. They of course got all PC game developers already on their side. Another question, would a box very similar to a regular PC sell very well. I mean that box I assume would be target for gaming only meaning it would be less great for regular applictions. If that's so, wouldnt it miss a big market. Because how many people would buy both a computer and this X-box. If this X-box would do great not just in gamings, would that lead to outmatching regular PC developers in the world.

As for graphics, sound, and overall power, who needs more than PS2 offers? The thing has no graphical limitations, has unbelievable sound, and plays DVD's. That's why almost every single computer on the planet has a Windows operating system and why they have so much cash. As for videogames, Microsoft has approached all the major developers. With Microsoft's worldwide appeal, developers would be crazy to pass an oppurtunity like the one Microsoft is offering. Like I've said before: I'll be getting a PS2. Comment: Hey, Kitu. Same here. I will probably get a PS2 also. The screen shots are just awesome and there will be so much demand for it that you will have to preorder one just to get it. I dont really care what the Dolphin and X-Box are going to do. Sony has produced quality products before and I think that they will come through again with the PS2. The whole issue for me is gameplay rather than graphics. Yes the graphics are very important but dont you remember some of the great games for the NES? Did they have great phenominal graphics? No. The reason they sold and were great was the gameplay. That will be the deciding factor with me, the gameplay. By the way, how's the weather up there in pokey old Hartville?
