TOKYO --Game developer Jaleco Ltd. has begun marketing an arcade game in which players square off in a virtual singing competition for a chance to participate in actual auditions.

"Dream Audition" players will be rated by the machine on how well they can sing selected songs. The music will be cut off if a player continually has problems keeping up with changes like variations in tempo.

Players who fulfill certain conditions, including an average score of 95 or higher over the three-song battle, will receive certificates qualifying them for a real audition.
Jaleco also plans to market a home version for Sony Computer Entertainment Inc.'s PlayStation2 console from July.
