Silpheed review

IGN posted a review of Treasure’s PS2 shooter Silpheed: The Lost Planet.
Here’s a bit:

Any gamer worth his salt will be familiar with the basics. At its core, Silpheed is a traditional top-down 2D shooter, thrust into audiovisual overdrive. The opening FMV establishes the story via badly-acted English voiceovers: some type of hostile alien lifeform has attacked and assimilated the planet Solont, and a fleet of SA-77 Silpheed Super Dogfighters has been sent to the front-line of combat. Hideous alien creations fly at you, and you extend interstellar diplomacy by blowing them the hell up. At the mid-point and end of each level, bosses with three different attacks attempt to do away with you, and you riddle their corpses with cannon fire as well. But despite formulaic game layout, Treasure kicks out the action in true style that manages to make everything old seem new again.
