F1 Racing Championship interview
Posted by @ 5:18 PM, EDT
Gamespot UK posted an interview with Ubi Soft, talking about their upcoming F1 game:

GSUK: What about the graphics engine? Did you introduce some new special effects?

JB: Our graphics engine was specially built for the PS2 by an internal team and the result is that we can almost display what we want. We also wanted to emphasis special effects to give again the player the feeling he is IN the race. Just have a look to the heat effect of the rain to be convinced!!! Check also the heat effect on the back of each car, the environment mapping, the backfire, the mark that the cars will leave on the road if braking too quickly...

Our graphics engine can display tracks with more than 130,000 polygons and for the cars we "limited" ourselves to 7000 polygons including the wheels! This level of detail has never been seen before in a Formula One game.
