PS2 launch
Posted by @ 5:25 PM, EDT
Aaron (preview/review editor of this site) got his PS2 earlier today and posted a report of his morning adventures. He also smacked up first impressions of SSX, Madden and DOA2, as well as the system itself.

CNN posted an article about the PS2 launch.
Here’s a bit:

Sony said it will ship 100,000 units a week to retailers every week from now until Christmas. Company executives acknowledge the trickle may not be adequate to handle the holiday season demand. Despite the delays Sony still expects to sell 3 million consoles by the end of March. The PlayStation 2 will be released in another
17 countries on November 24, specifically the European Union, Switzerland and Norway.

Many retail outlets pre-sold PlayStation 2 consoles, but the spotty supply suggests many consumers, even those who ordered them in advance, would be left twiddling their thumbs instead of their joystick controllers after day one.

"Customers have been waiting all year for this launch and the limited allocation has only increased the frenzy," said Kirk Konigsbauer of Amazon.com, which begins offering a limited number of consoles for online sale on a first come/first serve basis Thursday afternoon.

Bloomerg also posted an article about the PS2 launch:
``Everyone is coming by and asking for it,'' said Cynthia Rodriguez, who rings up sales at the FAO Schwarz store on Fifth Avenue in New York. The toy retailer decided not to carry the PlayStation 2 at any of its 43 locations around the U.S. because it couldn't guarantee availability, she said.

Sony scaled back the number of PlayStation 2 consoles it would ship at the introduction because of parts shortages. The machine already had been expected to be in great demand, and thousands of game enthusiasts have already paid cash deposits for the device. Last month, Sony said it would ship about 100,000 units a week following the introduction to ensure a steady supply.

WOW!!! Never have i enjoyed a system so much. It's clear it will rip the anus out of the nintendo like it did with the dreamcast, 64, and of course the X-BOX!!! The X-Box sucks and so does nintendo, sega and the rest. Except playstation 2 and playstation. I LOVE SONY, the greatest people on the planet...

I went all over New York and ALL the playstation 2 was sold out. Every location I went over 200 people was there. Sony should have shipped more if they want to make money. Nintendo SUXXXXXXX. Copiers. Even on the Internet it's sold out. Sony better hurry and bring more to the US. And with DVD in all of them. And some stores wasn't taking reservations for PS2. :(

i dont see why there is so much fuss over the playstation2.. i mean i will be purchasing one, just not right now.. i will wait till there is more games comming out and for the price drop in the games/system. there is just too much price competition out there so the price will have to drop to probably 249 in 3-5 months... then 199 when nintendo comes out with their system.. but if you have to have the newest thing i guess go out and wait to get one.

I pre-ordered, and waited in line just like everyone else did. I'm just sharing the experience for those that weren't able to wait in line, or ordered theres on-line, stuff like that. Sorry you didn't enjoy it Undertaker, you seem to be in the minority.

I've been to alot of Playstation 2 web-sites today and already, i am getting sick and tired of seeing people that own or work for that site, brag about how much fun it is and all that other shit. I don't think its fair for the people who tried to get their pre-order in and they weren't able to. I know one guy here where I live bough almost all of the PS2 systems from the local EB.

I can't wait to see what people are going to do when the better system comes out(Nintendo Gamecube).
