ie Magazine has the low down on this very interesting article:

" Tripath Technology, Inc. has announced that its digital-amplifier technology will be used in Sony Corp.’s SA-PSD5 audio/video amplifier for the PlayStation 2, to provide “theater-quality sound.” According to a statement, PS2 owners will be able to plug the system into the unit, which will provide “330 watts of high-fidelity, 5.1 surround sound for games or DVD movies.”
The unit, which will go on sale in Japan next month, is comprised of five satellite speakers and a subwoofer, and provides two optical and two analog inputs. It has compatibility with Dolby Digital/DTS and Sony’s Digital Cinema Sound formats, and uses Santa Clara, California-based Tripath’s TA-2002 Class-T stereo digital amplifier.
The unit has yet to be announced for the North American market."
