PlayStation 2 To Support Java
Posted by @ 3:37 PM, EDT

Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI) recently announced that it's planning on equipping its PlayStation 2 gaming consoles with the Java Virtual Machine (Java VM) by the end of this year. The incorporation of Java into the PS2 will enable users to run Java programs, including applet and i-Appli Java applications, on the console. The first batch of Java-enabled PS2s will hit stores in July.

SCEI also said that it is considering setting up a special service that will enable those who purchase the non-Java PS2 now to download the software for free when it later becomes available.
Thanks to IE Magazine for the info

Its koo that Sony is incorporatin da program java into da ps2. With this new strategic move, da ps2 will have more depth 2 it. Sony's internet plans are comin 2gether slowly and its makin da system look more competitive towards its competiters. If sony can get its secretive internet plans together soon....and provide the triple "A" games at da same time...(and it looks like it is)....no doubt its goin 2 end up bein victorious! ps2 owners should be very happy with this recent announcement. also with the recent announcement of sony also incorporatin micromedia's flash program is also a welcom addition
