GameSpot News learned today that Sony Computer Entertainment is working on a sequel to Ape Escape. It is not yet known which system the sequel will be released on, but it seems likely that the game will be for the PlayStation 2 console. GameSpot will keep you posted on the latest developments.

As many of you know, the original Ape Escape was a 3D platformer that did quite well with both critics and consumers. It was released for the Sony PlayStation in June 1999.

Thats deffinitly one i'm planning to buy, no matter what console

I enjoyed the first game immensely, though I'm normally not too interested about platformers. This is one game I'm looking forward to

In your opinion SaintKev3.
Your opinion is not a fact so don't try and pass it as one.

Is any platform on the PSX/PS2 a ripoff of Mario? Then isn't Banjo Kazooi a rippoff of Mario? Or Sonic, Nights, Donky Kong, and Yoshi rippoffs of Mario? Since when can you use two analog sticks to catch monkeys in Mario, or even Donky Kong?

Oh bugger me you gotta catch monkeys with nets, man Sony is really pushing the boundaries of innovation here aren't they.

Mario finds Stars, Banjo finds Jiggies, Donkey Kong finds Banana's and Spike finds Monkeys, sorry been there and done that. Oh by the way, if it looks like a 3D platformer and it plays like a 3D platformer chances are it is a 3D platformer or least that's what IGNPSX are calling it, but their opinion doesn't stand for much now does it.

Trin, have you even ever PLAYED ape escape? Really, I'm looking forward to your in depth analysis seeing as how you know SO MUCH about it.

I tell you what, I'm going to save off this post and then beat you mercilessly with it the next time you say even ONE positive thing to say about any of Nintnedo's future platformers. After all, why would you be interested in another Mario, Donkey Kong, Banjo whatever, Kirby, or any other of Nintnedo's platformers seeing as how you've "been there, done that" already.

Ape Escape was a great game. Especially the full utilization of the Dual Shock controller was really enjoyable. It's not just a Mario rip-off though. Look at the system how you use all the stuff. Err, Zelda 64 anyone? Identical systems. But who cares! The game works great as a whole, better that Zelda or Mario. Just my opinion *gets himself some asbestos armor*

I haven't played Ape Escape and and I don't wan't to play it, im quite done with grainy, pixelated and jaggie Playstation graphics.

The game is Mario 64 with a net and a few monkeys, another quarrel I have is why is it called Ape Escape when there are no Apes in the game, quite a hypocritical move there on Sony's part.

Im sure Ape Escape is not a bad game but it does not compare to what EAD and Rare can come up with, and it is a rip off of Mario 64, any 3D platformer is, the difference is what games innovate Banjo and Donkey Kong do but Ape Escape does not and sort of sounds repetitive doing nothing more then running around and catching monkeys.

Obviously, because it rhymes, is catchyer than Monkey Escape, or Chimpanzee Escape, and because the average person doesnt analyze it, and automatically associate Apes with monkey's and other primates

Name is just a name. So what if it isn't perfectly correct with the definition of the word Ape. Not like PETA or any other animal activist will complain about it. Now, here is whats funny, you are downing Ape Escape, even though you haven't played it. What makes you the expert of a game you haven't played? I played Sonic, what do you do? Run around, get rings, get to the end, maybe a few puzzles around the way. Not much innovation here. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...I played Banjo, really big areas to explore, (oh wow, is this innovative? Pddt. Whatever), first, felt lost, then I began doing little things, swimming, going from level to level...not much different then other platformers I have played. Even the ones on the PSX. Jaggies? Either this or that annoying fog the N64 games have that is the effect of the so called AA they use. Which one is better? Hmmmmmmmmmmm...

Bwhahahaha Trintius you are a fool!

Ape Escape is not, not a copy of Mario 64.
I'm not saying it's better, i'm just saying it's not the same.

Go out and play it Trintius and i'm sure you will have fun.
It's a very simple game but thats why it's so fun.

Also Trintius here is a tip when posting on forums: NEVER BASH A GAME IF YOU HAVE NOT PLAYED IT! IT DOES NOT MAKE THE GAME LOOK BAD, IT MAKES YOU LOOK LIKE AN IDIOT!

I just got back to playing the game, thanks to this thread, and had fun again

Trin, you're a real moron Try the game out, really. All the gadgets and everything make the game so diverse and fun to play you can't judge it without trying it. Though I doubt you'd even have the skills to row the dinghy... no offence
