These are from IGN:

It should come as no surprise to any PS2 fan that the Japanese PlayStation2 launch titles, or those that arrived shortly after, suffered from several technical problems, from the lack of aliasing to flickering, to little things that proved some games were rushed. Such is the case with Capcom's Street Fighter EX3, a game that most critics unfortunately slammed, and which, to be fair, suffered from extreme slowdown and choppy frame rates.
As with any good company, however, Capcom listens to its fans-base, and has therefore gone to work to iron out the kinks of the North American version. The first dilemma to nail? Slowdown.
There is a four-point laundry list of improvements that Americans can look forward to come October 26, 2000. The first and most significant of the changes is the acceleration of frame rates and the subsequent improvement in character response. In that scenario, the American version has been "fixed," or as a Capcom representative puts it, "massively improved." "There is no slowdown anymore, none," said Capcom. "I've been playing through it and I haven't seen any section with slowdown in it."
In addition to this correction of a frame rate blight, Capcom's programmers have added little extras that gamers should appreciate. In the North American version now, players can call up a special command list during gameplay. This menu displays all moves for your character during play.
Third, in the Arena mode in Multiplay, characters can now select CPU-controlled characters as well as human-controlled characters. In the Japanese version of the game, players could only select human characters.
Fourth, and last, players can now choose a Random Select option when choosing characters. Players can have the CPU choose a random character for both the opponent and their own player.
Capcom reaffirmed that Street Fighter EX3 is definitely a launch title for the PS2, which means it will appear on October 26, when the PlayStation2 arrives in retail stores across North America.

The boys from Tecmo just dropped by with an early build of their PS2 launch title Dead or Alive: Hardcore, and those of you counting down to the 26th of October have one more reason to get excited. A 3-D brawler with an intricate fighting system, DOA first appeared on the PlayStation, followed by DOA2 for the Sega Dreamcast. Considered one of the finest fighting engines available, the series is coming back to the Sony with a vengeance. Although the copy we tested was only 60% complete, we're more than impressed. Here's some of what we saw during our brief firsthand test:
- New costumes, moves, and cut scenes
- Improved lighting and effects
- Six new tag-team levels
- All new playable characters, including Tengu and others!
- Localized English subtitles and voiceovers
- Mix and match Japanese and English subtitles and voiceovers
- CG art gallery
It's clear that the game's designers have paid careful attention to feedback from previous incarnations. While some of the levels are simply revamped versions from previous games, many are completely new and they all look spectacular. One level features electrified fences at the perimeter, and touching them results in a gorgeous but painful light show. Another level ends up in an inner-city labyrinth, with different alleys leading off to provide a nice counterpoint to the traditional ring-shaped arena. Costumes have undergone a similar treatment, and there's even more of those eyebrow-raising outfits to do battle with. Finally, new characters are available, namely Tengu - and another character who looks to be Bayman, one of the fighters from the original DOA. There's a lot more too, and we're pretty sure that more surprises will surface as the release date draws near.
With new costumes, characters and levels to unlock as well as a CG gallery, titling options and all new battle modes, replayability and value should be much improved over previous versions. The Sega version of DOA2 was one of the best fighters we've seen, and this should significantly up the ante - look for an updated preview in a few weeks, and we'll take a look at just how hardcore this game could be.
