SONY COMPUTER ENTERTAINMENT EUROPE CONFIRMS ITS PLAYSTATION2 LAUNCH PLANS AND SOFTWARE LINE-UP

LONDON September 28th 2000 - Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) confirmed that PlayStation2 would be launched in 17 countries on November 24th 2000 (namely all EU countries plus Switzerland and Norway.) To be followed by Australia and New Zealand on 30th November 2000 and Poland, the Czech Republic, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Iceland and South Africa and some Mediterranean countries before Christmas.

In addition, SCEE announced that a total of 33 software titles would be available during the launch period with a further 63 titles by the end of March 2001, the largest ever library at launch by any platform.

Commenting on this announcement, Chris Deering, President of SCEE said: We are launching PlayStation2 simultaneously in 17 territories, with more than three times the number of units than when we launched PlayStation in 1995.

We will have around 500,000 units of PlayStation2 during the initial launch period, 1,000,000 units are planned to be produced by the end of December 2000 and 3,000,000 by the end of March 2001. Even so, indications are that demand will far exceed initial supply.

For the first time there is a system that has a massive range of new software titles, can play DVD movies, is engineered for connectivity to lead the broadband revolution and has the capability to play more than 900 software titles already available on PlayStation.

Deering added: Our software line up demonstrates just how far studios from Europe, North America and Japan have been able to push the system in what has been a relatively short development time. During the next few months consumers will see even more show-case, ground-breaking PlayStation2 titles, as developers build on their expertise, whilst striving to add innovative new features, immersive gameplay elements and compelling storylines to all future releases.

We are very pleased that the development and publishing community has given such overwhelming support to the PAL markets. To have 90 titles in the space of 4 months demonstrates the smooth transition that developers have made in creating software titles and the enormous popularity that PlayStation2 has engendered amongst the Industry as a whole.

Representing a broad cross section of entertainment genres, the diverse PlayStation2 library contains titles from leading publishers and developers including: Acclaim, Activision, Capcom, Crave, Eidos, Electronic Arts, From Software, Infogrames, Interplay, Kemco, Koei, Konami, LucasArts, Microids,

Midas, Midway, NAMCO, Squaresoft, Rage Games, Rockstar, SCI, Swing, Take2, Tecmo, THQ, Titus Interactive, Ubisoft and Virgin Interactive.

Over 200 software titles are currently in development in Europe for PlayStation2, with over 300 content developers and publishers signed to create software titles, accounting for most of the worldwide development community.

Consumers will be able to purchase the following titles (listed in alphabetical order) at more than 30,000 retail locations across Europe, The Middle East, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand.

Mmmmmm... Wow. Me like this. Me like this a lot.

But... GT3? Bah. I liked Gran Turismo 2000 better. But I can't wait to play the games. Oh man.
