In a rescent comparison between the PS2 and the BoX, I've come to the conclusion... the X-box is the PSX of this generation, and the PS2 can be labeled as the N64.
First off, let's take the power of both systems. The controversial number that Microsoft has tossed at us states that the BoX will do 100 mpps raw(WITHOUT any effects on). That said, the count will decrease in real time enviroments(I'd say, about 30 millon MAX). But that's still a lot more than what the PS2 offers, and coupled with it's development difficulties, I'd say Sony's in troubled waters...
Speaking of which, what's up with the game development? It's a matter of fact that the PS2 is a nightmare to program for, much like the notorious N64. Oh, I'm sure some bright minds will figure out a way to avoid the obstacles, but it's still going to be a thorn in Sony's arse. But early rumors and comments are stating that the BoX is a whiz to use, which is attracting swarms of software houses, like the Playstation once did when Nintendo launched a few years ago.
And much like everybody left Nintendo for sony, the same thing is tearing up the PS2. You already see Metal Gear Solid and Crash going to the X-Box, as are many other franchises that made the PSX such a joy to play. I mean, how long before MX gets Tekken, or dare I say it, Square?(NOTE: Did anyone expect Square leaving Nintendo for Sony? I don't know about you, but I was certainly appalled.) Deja vu, anyone??
Believe me, I'm not trying to ignite some flames around here, as I am a Nintendo fanboy myself, but that's just my two cents.
