![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() A regular DVD can hold 4.7gb of data on one side. A double-layered DVD can hold twice that-7.something on one side. A two-sided DVD has data on both sides of the disc. ------------------ |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I do have a couple dvd's that have wide screen one side and normal on the other. So could this possibly mean in dvd games for PS2 that instead of multi dvd's when you get to a certain point you will have to flip the disc over? I do know that Sony stated it can play dual layered dvds.Is that what the Matrix is cause some dvd players will not play the Matrix (SAMSUNG). I know I had to take it back and exchange it for another brand. ------------------ |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The ps2 games probably can be double sided because one of things that makes a dvd different than a cd is that it can be dual sided. I've been wondering about the dual layered thing for a while. Because a dual layered dvd holds more than 4.7 GB but that's what sony's reporting for their storage capacity and they also say it can do dual layering. Doesn't make much sense to me. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() There's a big difference between dual-sided and dual platter ('media') DVDs. Most of the early (1st-3rd generation)DVDs are able to read single and dual platter (single sided). However, a slightly more advanced laser and mirror setup is required to read dual sided single and dual platter DVDs. ------------------ |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Double sided DVDs are an old form to store more information on the DVD... For example: In the most movies you will see a short "still" at one part of the movie... that is the point when the Laser flips over to the second layer. If you have a double sided DVD you have to flip the disc by yourself. So the "new" dual layer DVD is just for your comfort in first place... BUT there are DVD that are double sided AND double layerd !!! 17GB !!! ![]() There are testings here in Germany (at Bayer) where they are useing a "holo" technique (donïż½t laugh) to store about 200 times more on a DVD than today !!!!!!!! That means ALL your movies on ONE DVD !!! I saw this baby in action in a TV Show a few month ago... Boy this will change HDD and everything... ------------------ [This message has been edited by THE EYE (edited 10-05-2000).] |
