i've come to the realization that almost all games all are overhyped. We first hear about a game a couple of months to a year before it comes out. We all our amazed at a couple of pics that are released..we drool we orgasm..whatever. Then all of us our sitting in our house thinking about this upcoming game...oh i cant wait for this to come out!!...and so on. Then we play the game, we say to ourselves..hey i love this game..but i cant see why i was cumming all over my house for months to play this game. I mean all the attention DOA2 got was astonishing...months and months in advance we would wait for a home version. Then when i finally played for the first time.. i thought to myself...was it really worth all that months of anguish just to play this?..i mean DOA2 is the one of the best fighters i own..but i dont think it should have gotten all that attention. I think this applies to almost all of the games that have come out. What do you guys think?...And do you guys have any other titles in mind that you thought got way to much attention by the media and us?

i was like that with ready to rumble and soul calibur, the preview pics and hype made them seem like games youd lock yourself in a tiny closet with for months. but when i finally took them home, i popped in soul calibur, and my first reaction was dissapointment and my first thought was "this is it??!?!" and ready 2 rumble didnt look nearly as good as all those preview pics i saw on the web.
My biggest pleasant surprise was nfl2k, in which i wasnt even expecting much, but it blew me away when i first popped in the disc, same goes for tokyo extreme racer.
but ps2 is the most hyped game system in video game history, but i think xbox might just take away that award.
shenmue was overhyped by sega lovers everywhere.
personally i think mgs2 is over hyped too, remember it was only video footage that was shown, not the actual game running off a home console ps2 system on your regular tv at home.
seems the story with all big games, previews look awesome, take that sucker home, and you think "wtf?"

yeah..thats what im talking about. I know MGS2 is gonna be awesome...but for the love of God..it was only video footage!!! calm down people!! i hear stuff like its gonna be the best... untouchable...competition crusher, and i mean goodness calm down, it would be nice if you have even seen the game running for real. All this anticipation is usually followed by somewhat of a letdown..believe me. That's why i try not to get TOO excited about a preview of an awesome looking game because eventually it will lead to somewhat of a letdown.

To me the only games that ever lived up to the hype were,
Mario 64
Metal Gear Solid
Zelda 64
and Soul Calibur
other people will put any ofthese games down for whatever reason but to me they were the greatest games I ever played.
Why is MGS2 so overhyped though? Simple, it may just be video, but everyone already knows how it will play, and this time around it will have much more features. The level of detail will be astonishing and MGS2 is like a sequel to your favorite movie(Mission Impossible 2) you see mere clips and they get you exicted, thats my theory at least. A lot of people hated MGS, but then a lot of people loved MGS. The industry though cant deny that it will be a mega-hit for PS2, and thats why it was game of the show.

Shenmue lives up to it but you have to be a big RPG fan to really appreciate it.

I think way too many big titles are over hyped. Theres nothing like seeing a game on web sites, in magazines, even in ads on telly, getting all excited in leadup to the release date, buying said game, taking it home, poping it in your console, playing said game, then being dissapointed by said game. This was the FF8 saga for me.

Hype kills!
People who are too hyped over one something will later turn out to be dissapointed in the end.
The only reason reviewers love this or tat is cuz they play it before many other gamers get to. They aren't spoiled with hype since they are the ones that start it in the first place.
Like FF8, reviewers like it, yet some gamers don't. Why? Cuz they were too hype to be sadden in the end. Yet reviewers who played it ahave probably enjoyed every minute of this.

So true. But there is nothing like a good sleeper title. Goldeneye was one, Symphony of the Night was another.

i also think that graphics play a huge role in a game being overhyped too. Lots of times we automatically think the game will be awesome. For example: when somebody posted MSR pics , one person(stevee) said that it has no competition and its the best out their. I was thinking..what are you talking about!!!!..you havent even played the game!!!!...all of us do this from time to time...me, you all of us. I think we need to be more aware about the different aspects of a game before it comes out instead of drooling over pics.
