Sega Dreamcast is great, its a great system. BUT it is dying, it is dying slowly but it is dying, mabye in the next year or two, The internet play is not going to help much especially in Japan they should just forget Japan and focus on the U.S. because that's the only place they still have a good chance.

X-BOX, it looks impressive, but it might not succeed due to the lack of details and people are not really sure if microsoft can make a console simply because they are new to the buisness so developers don't know what to expect. And also they will enter the race to late and they will not be able to catch up. And my final comment for the X-BOX will not be able to Succeed in Japan at all due to the lack of interest.

Dolphin is the Wild-Card in this one now one knows what the hell to expect from it. But knowing Nintendo and its past it will have something that no other company has the one thing that will rescue them and make them a crap load of money even though you hate them it is POKEMON. Also I know that the Dolphin will be a great console.

Playstation 2. It has the biggest choke hold in the gaming industry in Japan they have no competition there dreamcast is dead, Nintendo has nothing there so it is alone and it is killing over there. As for the U.S. it has already sold out, and it is not even out yet. But it has it flaws, it's is a little hard too work with, and the games are nothing special, and they also have nothing on the internet play. But overall it is also a great system. Now where are those great games?

So here is what it comes down to:

X-BOX-Will enter too late, and will not have any support in Japan.

Dreamcast-could pose a challenge in U.S. if it continues with its games, but it will slowly die out. And it can't do it only in the U.S. and it is almost done in Japan, so they most likely won't cut it.

Dolphin-Will probably be a strong system with Nintendo, and will have great games, and will dreadly have Pokemon. (YUCK!!)

PSX2-Probably has the best chance. But they better start cracking with some great games,which seems they are starting too.

So it all comes down to DOLPHIN vs. PSX2. Out of those two i dont have a clue of who will win it. What are your opinions. (Oh and please don't start fight over this these are just my opinions and I would like to hear everyone else's without flaming and bashing the other side)

Saturn came out before PSX and still lost due to the fact it had a duel processor and was difficult to program. PSX on the other hand was easier to program for and thus enjoyed tremendous developer support.
Ironically PSX successor the PS2 has duel processors and is extremely difficult to develope for. I foresee xbox winning this generation, due to its ease and cost to develope for.

PS2 may have the numbers early on, but like the Genesis lose at the end. Xbox's first generation games will probably look much better then PS2's second gen. The DirectX API has vast libraries and documentation.

Of course the games will determine the winner. I for one will wait and see, until a game compels me to buy a another console. I will probably end up buy all of them, I already own a DC. So I don't really care who wins.
Hopefully xbox will gain lots of support because it has the best system hardware wise. I want to see what developers can do with it. 100+ million polygons with all the effects on! Who wouldn't want to see a game like that?

PS2 for Suikoden 3, Dolphin for Metroid (crossing fingers) and any realtime CG game xbox dishes out.

If MS doesn't piss on developers, and shows some sweet playables at next years E3 then MS will grab its share of the market.

I think your gonna see a three way battle not 2 way like previous console wars.

If the DC doesn't succeed in Japan then I don't see Sega sticking in the hardware business. Sega could make huge profits as a developer/publisher across all three remaining platforms. I really can not see CSK letting Sega continually post 100 million a year losses without doing something about it. If Sega isn't coming close to making a profit than they'll have no choice but to cut there losses and re-think there strategy.

Face facts, for the time being it's all speculation. They're all gonna play games and they're all going to have good ones. So try playing them!

Of course a post with "console Wars" as the topic is going to start a flame war no matter how nice you try to put it.

Bottom line: Build a bridge and get over it people! Play the games and be happy!
