"Although the franchise seems old now, third-party development chiefs are using the original Tomb Raider title's success as an example of the rewards that can be reaped when a developer takes risks. While the firm is keen to maintain a fair proportion of racing, sports and action games, it expects game creators to tap into PlayStation2's revolutionary capabilities.

A Sony insider told FGN Online, "Some publishers are bound to want to play it safe from the start, and there will be no shortage of tried and tested formulae. But Sony is working hard to evangelise the new platform as an opportunity to break new barriers."
