Control your games with your voice
Posted by @ 9:43 AM, EST
Daily Radarposted an article on voice recognition controlling your games on ps2. Here's a slice:

"Despite Sony's tightlipped take on the subject, the company is deep into the research and development of a technology that could impact videogame control as much any device in the past. Sony is currently developing speech recognition technology in the US that would enable users to talk to their PlayStation2 via a headset and microphone. Although we won't see it until a year or two after launch, speech recognition for the PlayStation2 is one of its most exciting features."

Comment: Man u people are funny. HAHA, My psx2 is gonna kill me. HAHAAH, It won't be for contralling characters is for games like. Quake. So u can say, Shotgun, And u get the shotgun, U still will be using your contrals for movement. I have it on my pc. and it is wicked, When u play halflife on the net. U don't have to worry about pressing 1 or 2 for different weapons. U just say the weapon u want..
Also talking to people on-line is kewl. your all doing it now. Just not with with your voice.

Comment: Its good for online gaming. If you have a team in a game you can talk to your team and tell them what to do instead of having to type everything in.Like if it was some sort of Star Wars game and you dont have time to type in what to do cause theres a tie fighter up your arse. This will make it easier and more exciting.Do you want to have to read a message and get blown out of the sky when youre nmot looking?

Comment: voice recognition would be ok in online gaming. But who would want to hear some weird person speaking to them while playing a fantasy online game?

Comment: This would be great for games with many commands, or for instance spells.
Imagine being able to say, CAST Fire 1 Zillion to cast a spell instead of looking though pages of spells! :)

Comment: Hmmmmmmmm, i think that since its a headset it will probably definetely just be another feature than just controlling your character. I think the controller will control the character. Like you can move around and say"wut up commie bastard" to another guy in the game, and he replies with whatever he wants to say. Sorta like seaman.

But i definetely think this is going to be a cool peripheal than something that will take the place of the controller.

Comment: I agree with aaron. Then why the heck do you need controllers? it sounds like a good feature, but if you think about it, it's not really neccessary! it'll take the fun out of the games. They should just stick with the standard controllers

is what I think!

IT'S A STEP TOWARDS A BLEAK DARK FUTURE WHERE MACHINES BECOME AWARE OF THEIR OWN EXISTENCE AND ELIMINATE THE ENTIRE HUMAN RACE IN ORDER TO POPULATE THIS WORLD WITH A SOCIETY OF BIOENGINEERED CYBERDROIDS...CAN'T ANYONE SEE...THIS IS ONE STEP CLOSER TO THE END OF MANKIND AS WE KNOW IT!!! Comment: this will be cool, mainly for future on-line games. aaron,i doubt you would do much controller activation with your voice in that manner,it will be for the complicated tasks and retrieving info in a game or speaking to your allies. i think the basic hand control methods will still be needed in conjunction with the voice command.
