PS2 screen capture problems
Posted by @ 12:20 PM, EST
Gamefan wrote up an article on why some PS2 game screens look worse than the screens released by the publishers.
A slice:

Now, not only has the lead car been robbed of all it's detail vertically, but so has everything else… including the text, which was originally crystal clear! What you're seeing is only HALF of the visual information NAMCO and Sony wanted you to see in each frame.

Comment: This is so true, I had a 21" Sony Trinitron TV, but I wanted a bigger picture and I wanted the picture to be better. So I bought a 29" Sony Vega, this TV has a Multi-Av port, which is called the Playstation port. If you just use the cables that come with the machine that picture is the same as the 21" Trinitron picture, but then if you change the cables to the Multi Av cables, the picture completely changes, so much in fact that it looks like a whole new system!
But I am not too sure if the Multi AV, port is in the Sony Vega's in the Uk or the US, but if it is use it because you have never seen a picture like it! But the Multi-AV port doesn't seem to work so well with DVD's...I use the normal cables that come with the machine. The problems you get with the Multi-Av cables while watching DVD's are lines jumping across the screen, especially on dark picture...so it doesn't look so great while watching 'The Matrix.'

Comment: I can agree with the picture quality issue on the TV's. My games look good on an old 25" Sanyo but when I go to the store and see the same game on a Sony Vega TV I am blown away. So blown away that it's the first purchase I make when I get paid next month. A lot of people running smack on the PS2 graphics have never even seen them in person anyway. Do the look good? Yeah Do the look great? Sometimes. Is it a big difference between the Dreamcast? Nope, not yet at least. I have both side by side and DC is still my system of choice. And software has everything to do with it. I'm more excited about the DC release schedule than the PS2 at the moment.

Comment: interesting, this makes a lot of sense since we're hearing two conflicting views of PS2 game images,i wonder if it has to do with a choice of t.v.'s as well, some render picture quality different than others...i don't know?
