Interview with Capcom
Posted by @ 12:41 PM, EST
Core slapped up a nice interview with Capcom where they talk about the PS2 game Onimusha.
Here's a tasty bit of it:

Question: So these ideas really took shape when you decided to bring Onimusha to the PlayStation2?

Inafune-san: There were two reasons for bringing it to the PS2; One was that the PlayStation2 was fascinating, and the other was Mr. Okamoto (Capcom managing software director). Mr. Okamoto came in one day and screamed 'We're going to work on the PlayStation2 from now on!' [laughs..] How could we argue, we knew we could make something much more sophisticated on the PS2 hardware. The original PlayStation had serious hardware limits, whereas there are none on the PS2.

For example, when I talk to my team about adding new effects, I've never gotten 'That's Impossible!' as a response. On the PlayStation2 they just tell me how much time they need to explore the new ideas, and we adjust accordingly. I really enjoy watching development progress on the PlayStation2.

Question: Graphically speaking, what aspects are you focusing on?

Inafune-san: Apart from ordinary aspects, I'm concentrating on showing how blood flows realistically. Blood spurts out when you cut people with a katana (sword) at different angles. It really depends on how the enemy is cut, and at what speed. As you'll see, blood will spurt out at first, and later drip in Onimusha. It's hard to describe, but you'll see soon.
