PC Vs Console (and a new PS2 game)
Posted by @ 4:19 PM, EDT
VE slapped up an interview with Jeff Gosztyla from Avalanche Software.
They discuss the difference between PC and console gaming.
Here’s a slice

Currently I am working at Avalanche Software on an arcade-like motorcycle racing game. I am responsible for:
-The physics engine for motorcycle mechanics
-The collision system
-The overall game architecture
-The joystick input
-The 3D sound system
-Certain aspects of the artificial intelligence
The game will be released for the Playstation 2 in the Spring of 2001.

VE: What kind of competition do you see between the X-Box and PS2?

FOOD: There is going to be a very bloody battle. A lot will depend on the initial cost of the X-Box. Much like Sony deflated the Dreamcast launch, Microsoft can deflate the PS2 launch. But that won't be easy, because the PlayStation is supposedly the third most recognized brand name in the world. MS has to employ the strategy of hyping it up before it releases. The Japanese release of the PS2 sold around 700,000 units in first few days, and has now exceeded 1.4 million units. But MS has announced the biggest advertising budget of any console. Microsoft knows they only have one opportunity to establish themselves as the player in the console market, I anticipate very few mistakes on their part with the launch. Microsoft is already on most of the desktops in the world, X-Box is their way of getting on all the set-tops in the world.

This is Just plain jibberish(the words of wisdom from the PS2 Wiseman). Also"Jagged lines make one great, not smooth textures!"
