THQ Announces Motocross Franchise Expansion; Key Developers Include THQ Subsidiary, Pacific Coast Power & Light Co., Funcom and Tiertex

THQ Inc. (Nasdaq:THQI) today announced an expansion of its motocross franchise to include games for the Nintendo 64, PC and Game Boy Color, as well as a PlayStation sequel to the recently released "Championship Motocross Featuring Ricky Carmichael."
Pacific Coast Power and Light, a subsidiary of THQ, will develop the Nintendo 64 title. Funcom, who also developed "Championship Motocross Featuring Ricky Carmichael," has begun work on the PlayStation sequel and PC title. Tiertex will develop THQ's first motocross title for Game Boy Color. The multi-platform line of "Championship Motocross" games is scheduled for release in fall 2000. Pacific Coast Power and Light will also develop a PlayStation 2 version of "Championship Motocross."

"With the success of 'Championship Motocross Featuring Ricky Carmichael' for the PlayStation, we look forward to expanding the brand with 'Championship Motocross' for titles across all platforms," said Michael Rubinelli, vice president of product development. "We are confident that we can continue to provide the best motocross experience to all enthusiasts."

Pacific Coast Power and Light, developer of THQ's recently released "Road Rash 64," plans to create a completely new motocross game geared toward the younger Nintendo 64 demographic. The game will take on a more arcade-like style with a multi-player option and anticipated features including freestyle, championship modes and the THQ U.S. Open race event. The game will also boast a stock of authentic bikes, riders and tracks.

"We're planning on creating a motocross experience that not only delivers the tight turns and steep hills of real motocross tracks but the feel of straddling authentic 80, 125 and 250 cc competition bikes," said Don Traeger, president, Pacific Coast Power & Light Co.

"With superb graphics, record onscreen bike packs and a four player, split-screen multi-player option, `Championship Motocross' promises the most accurate and fun Motocross sim for the Nintendo 64. With the technical possibilities of the PlayStation 2, we intend to make the definitive motocross game."

Building on the ultra-realistic "Championship Motocross Featuring Ricky Carmichael" game engine, the PlayStation sequel will feature vastly improved graphics in its several different modes including career, freestyle and championship. The game will also boast improved multi-player capabilities. With more licensed riders, tracks and bikes, the Funcom game will deliver the most realism in the motocross category since its predecessor.

Funcom, renowned for its proprietary `RMD' (Real Motocross Dynamics) bike physics system, is also scheduled to develop THQ's first "Championship Motocross" title for the PC.

Proven Game Boy and Game Boy Color developer Tiertex will utilize a revolutionary 3D game engine unlike any ever seen before on a hand-held system to bring the excitement of the sport to gamers on the go. Other THQ-published Tiertex titles include "Toy Story" and "Madden NFL 2000."
