Possibly the most anticipated and hyped game that will appear on the PS2 so far is this hot title. If you think Soul Caliber was THE best fighting game known to man, wait till you see what Namco has in store for you this time!
It's virtually a given that Tekken Tag Tournament will be the best fighting game to own once it is released and will appeal to most if not all hardcore fighting fans.
Although TTT may not be the most revolutionary game, it looks to perfect in all aspects that make a game like this really shine.
There is one element however, that is sure to add a new dimension to the game and that is its "tag" feature. During a fight players will be able to tag in other fighters to take up the cause or when you're getting your ass kicked. A character that is on the sidelines slowly regains some of their health while the battle rages on. In addition there will be new tag related moves in the game.
This is a perfect recipe for a great multiplayer game.
It's too bad that the PS2 only has two controller ports (opps, Sony must have forgot the other two). Hopefully some kind of peripheral will be available at launch to allow four + multiplayer action. Also, the USB ports can hopefully be used for additional controllers.
The Tekken series is known for its easy move system which is good for people like me who don't play many fighting games, but I must say even I am waiting to buy this sucker. There are four main button moves: high punch, low punch, high kick, and low kick. Plus the top four buttons can be assigned different moves such as a two-button combo, sidestepping, throws and so on.
TTT will most likely be among the top best looking PS2 titles for launch and let me tell you why. First, you have the best looking characters ever seen in a fighting game, they move with a fluidity that's almost mesmerizing.
The style of the characters' design does not appear to replicate real life people but instead they are polished, well designed and richly detailed in every way. They more or less exaggerate human physical traits to look like the perfect fighting machines. I can't wait to see the PS2's ability to create free-flowing hair and clothing. This game will also be an ideal showcase for affects like variable lighting affects and real-time light sources.
There is already proof of the great use of lighting in one screenshot where two fighters are battling in some building lighted with candles that cast a dim, orange light on the characters. On one fighter who was wearing a black gee, I could notice the shadows and the brighter ridges where the clothing was folded! Now is that fine detail or what?
In another area outside in a field the daylight sunshine looked fantastic on the rocky cliff in the background. What really impressed me was that it seemed each and every grass blade in the field was individually animated!
To sum things up the graphics in TTT are just simply amazing with many vibrant colors and affects, it looks better than Soul Caliber which also says a lot.
Namco is delivering this game on a DVD, hum...nice choice! So this means players will be treated to even more movies to help tell the story (whatever it may be).
With the DVD's massive size, it will now be possible to have multiple ending sequences for each character depending on how well they did. For example, if you beat the game without loosing a match you get the wicked ending but if you just barely beat the game then you're given a lame ending. Maybe this will stimulate a bit of motivation to keep on playing?
When the much-awaited Tekken Tag Tournament finally arrives on PS2, players can expect to see some of the old faces from previous games including Paul Phoenix, Yoshimitsu, Jin Kazama, Lei, etc. Plus there will be many new characters to choose from. This is definitely going to be a hot title and will be the perfect game to break-in that new PS2 controller.
Ladies and gentleman, boys and girls, children of all ages, prepare yourself for some serious button mashing!
