The World Is Not Enough
PS2 Preview by Shawn Fogarty

Bond is back! Well, he will be soon anyway, thanks to EA Studios which have acquired the rights to publish the game. The World Is Not Enough will be built out of an enhanced Quake III engine for the PS2 and will employ many of the same game elements that went into Goldeneye 007 for the N64 which was one of the, if not the best games for that system. Some of the game elements in TWINE will be the use of stealth mixed in with fast paced action, variety of weapons and 10 missions that draw the player into the game.

The game will put players into a multitude of different gameplay situations throughout many locations all over the world. For instance, in some places you will have to ski, in other places youll be doing some one-on-one shootouts or chasing villains through crowded city streets. The weapon targeting system has been improved over Tomorrow Never Dies, which is good because youll have over 20 weapons to choose from. A few of Bond's weapons: the BGK-74, Russian assault rifle, AR-36 tactical assault rifle and of course his old stand-by PK99.

The graphics follow a similar look to the visuals seen in Turok II (expansion pak enhanced), only better. The various environments are incredibly detailed and realistically textured and a particularly good job was done on lighting effects. In the levels, just the right amount and shade of light is cast on the walls and objects to pull off an astounding life-like appearance. Unlike in many N64 games where textures were blurred too much, in TWINE it seems that just the right amount of "blur" is added to keep the graphics looking better further into the distance. In one scene there was some gorgeous reflection mapping in a bedroom with shiny tiled floor. You could actually see the reflection of every object in the room reflected onto the floor!

During your quest, Bond will meet up with some of his popular allies like Dr. Christmas Jones, Q, and M. They will give Bond tips and advice to help him through the complex levels. You can actually complete a mission in more than one way however. Whichever way you complete them, you will be rewarded in a different way.

Theres also going to be multiplayer (no surprise there). Its going to be a two player deal right now but there is a strong possibility of it being a four player game by the time its finished. Unfortunately TWINE wont support Internet multiplayer gaming, its just too early for that yet.
Bond will be making his PS2 debut in Fall 2000, it will most likely be a holiday title not a launch one.
