PS2 Exposed

As all of you know the day when you bring home that blue (or whatever color Sony makes it) box is rapidly approaching. No doubt there are those of you who have already cleared a space in the entertainment center for your new prize. For those who want to see the PS2 in a different setting I've put together some pics that may help you put the system into perspective. I'm hoping to make your dreams more vivid by showing you just what the system looks like, how big it is next to a Dreamcast, and even how it compares to an old favorite. While I don't have a very good camera, I hope you enjoy these few snapshots. After you are done reading this head off to our forums and help countdown to the big day. (Click for larger pics)

Here's the Japanese PS2 box The PS2 box next to the Dreamcast

I hadn't realized how close in size these two actually are, but as you can see for yourself they are pretty similar. The Dreamcast box is a bit deeper, maybe half an inch, but the PS2 box is longer, by the same amount.

This is what you'll be seeing when you open up your $300 investment. You might not want to do this outside like I did, but my PS2 likes to run around in the backyard sometimes to get some exercise. Yes, I forgot to turn the Sony logo back.

This is where you'll be plugging everything in. Don't fret if you don't know how to hook this baby up, we'll have a full feature on that closer to launch.

It'll take time for your new systems to get used to each other. The Dreamcast tends to get along with the PS2 quite well. The PSX and the PS2 are another story however. PSX says "The PS2 comes barging in here with her fancy graphics, and backwards compatibility, and then wants to get up with Dreamcast? I don't think so." One thing I can't convey in these pictures is the weight of the Playstation2. It's actually quite heavy, probably close to twice as heavy as the PSX. She's a bit sensitive about her weight so don't mention it.

I hope that I've provided you with a small amount of insight into the world of the Playstation2. Seeing it next to some other systems might help you figure out just how much room you will need to make for your new friend come October 26th. Start checking under your seat cushions, and roll those pennies, cause this baby's going to be worth it.
