GameShark SharkBoard review
Posted by @ 6:13 AM, EDT
We added a review of InterAct's GameShark SharkBoard:

The keyboard is quite simple in design yet highly functional. Made of sturdy black plastics and soft touch keys, the unit accompanies the PS2 hardware nicely. Getting started with the SharkBoard was easy enough, simply plug it into either USB port at the front of the PS2 and it will auto-detect the connection. We were eager to see how it would make entering Gameshark 2 codes easier, and we were pleasantly surprised. The SharkBoard is specially designed to provide handy functions and commands for the GameShark 2 cheat device. Keys traditionally devoted to PC applications have been replaced with GameShark 2 hot keys in order to speed up the process of entering codes even quicker.

PlayStation 2 Price Drop Imminent?
Posted by @ 2:41 PM, EDT

According to investment firm Webush Morgan, Sony may announce plans to drop the price of the PlayStation 2 in the next two weeks. Defending the position, firm representative Miguel Iribarren said believed a price cut was planned before the launch of the Xbox and GameCube in America. However, he believes Sony will push up their price drop, 'in a pre-emptive move to counter any potential slowdown in consumer spending for PS2 products.' Sony shares fell more than 4% during trading today on the speculative news.

New Splashdown Media
Posted by @ 2:39 PM, EDT
This game sure is pretty. Check it out:

There are more than 18 courses in the game, and three different difficulty levels. Each course boasts secret areas, shortcuts and ramps enabling players to pull off in-air stunts and tricks, of which there are 30 in the game. For those who played Rainbow's ATV racer, they will feel at home playing Splashdown. Opponents will crash into you, ride over you in some cases, land a jump on you and are quite aggressive, and they also follow a programming technique called ALOD, Automatic Level of Difficulty, which bases the AI's toughness of the player's abilities.

ICO interview
Posted by @ 1:42 AM, EDT
We managed to get a few words from the Producer of ICO, Darren Yager.
Here’s a bit of it:

MW: What various kinds of puzzles and obstacles can gamers expect in the final build of ICO?

D.Y.: The types of puzzles that gamers experience are wide and varied, and really can't be narrowed down into any one category. I think that's what makes the game so fun and dynamic...there is no set answer to all of the puzzles. That said, there are puzzles such as simple lever pulls to open doors to other areas to finding a way on top of the windmill to using your weight correctly to jump from pod to pod outside the castle walls. There are really a ton of puzzles, all unique in their own way.

ESPN X Games Skateboarding review
Posted by @ 1:05 AM, EDT
We added a review of Konami’s skateboarding game:

The control mechanism is not as tight and responsive as it should be. As a result, crashing into items and rails is a regular occurrence. Trying to figure out the timing needed to jump an ollie and land it on the real is generally too demanding. You need to jump much too far away and this makes things awkward and unforgiving. Perhaps part of the control issue has to do with the level design in terms of intersecting lines. You need a lot of intersecting lines in order to pull off combos and keep your adrenaline pumping. X Games fails to deliver this.

WDL: WarJetz Review
Posted by @ 6:16 AM, EDT
We added a review of 3DO’s World Destruction League: War Jetz:

What the game somehow does do, at least for a while, is entertain. There are lots of objects that can be destroyed, and obviously capture-the-flag is fun, or else so many games wouldn’t use it. Flying around collecting bux is also strangely amusing, even though it doesn’t take much skill or effort. The bad news is that these things don’t stay fun for very long, and there simply isn’t enough variety in the game’s missions to make it worthwhile.

Spy Hunter 2 Media
Posted by @ 2:10 PM, EDT
Midway has yet to add better textures, but the current media is looking very promising:

While Midway has yet to add many detailed textures to the game in general, the game almost never slowed down, even at this early stage. And although they don't have much of a purpose during the training level, several important elements from the original are present: The car's front-mounted machine guns fire, along with readily available oil slicks and occasional trucks to drive into and be restored, Knight Rider-style. The car also shifts into two other types of vehicles, a motorcycle and thruster-powered racing boat, during training.

High Heat Major League Baseball 2002 review
Posted by @ 7:41 AM, EDT
We added a review of 3DO’s latest baseball game:

As mentioned above, do not judge this game by its graphics alone. It is the superior gameplay that sets High Heat on the top of the heap of PS2 baseball games this year. Hitting ten homeruns per game is not my idea of a baseball game. Thankfully, 3DO has addressed those issues in High Heat. High Heat ranks high in gameplay because the of the great pitcher-batter interface, sharp A.I. and the easy to use not to mention smooth fielding controls. You will work hard both at batting and pitching. The ability to guess the oncoming pitch is a great feature. Guess right and your ball may be heading for the fences. Even placing key locations for pitches when batting and pitching is vital to winning a game. The realistic reactions of the pitching -batting interface shines. For example, if you swing high and the pitch comes in low, contact will not be made. In many baseball games it does not matter where the ball comes in as a contact always occurs.

Scooty Races screens
Posted by @ 7:41 AM, EDT
Trecision released new screenshots of its racing game where users ride agile scooters in vast free-roaming environments.
Here’s a bit from the press release:

“For the moment being, Trecision does not want to give out any details about the structure of the game nor game-modes. “Scooty Races” features several innovative elements which we prefer to keep secret. The first playable version of “Scooty Races” is indeed very nice and fun to play. We are happy to see how a potentially good idea is developing into a videogame which shows a lot of originality, innovation and – most important – excellent playability, all with a very strong technical realization.
