Developed and published by Sony, available as a launch title, Dark Cloud will be a different kind of game. Instead of the mainstream tendency for games to be designed for blood thirsty or simple minded "point A to B" gamers. This game challenges players to create things and allows them to do whatever they want, kind of like making a game of their own.
The easiest way to define what type of game this is would be to call it a RPG/God game. However Sony is calling it a "Georama RPG". I guess it makes sense.
There is not much known about the intricacies of the gameplay but in general players can create landscapes by adding geographical elements like hills and rivers. Then you could add buildings and other doo-dads and when your finished you can control a character to explore the world you created. It's rumored that the character may be able to fly on a magic carpet so players can easily explore every part of their world. Zoom in, on-the-fly feature gives players the ability to see up close the many details in their creation. What's so cool about the zooming feature is that the worlds can be viewed from any distance and when you zoom in closer it is a seamless transition, instead of just switching screens or waiting for it to load.
The worlds that players create can be huge! The graphics are very sharp with realistic textures abound. Everything looks true to life from old-fashioned wooden houses, trees with realistic leaves to towering church steeples. The level of depth stretches impressively far into the distance almost as far as the eye can see. There is little fog in the game and the amount that is used is for creating environmental effects. Among other options expect to be able to place people, vehicles, animals and so on that will make your world come alive.
Dark Cloud will be highly customizable and that's the name of the game, to let your imagination run wild. And like no other game, Dark Cloud will allow players unparalleled versatility and freedom....maybe even more than the Sim City games!
