Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee
PS2 Preview by Bjrn Nilsson

Munch's Oddysee is according to developer Oddworld Inhabitants: an action, adventure, RPG, strategy and simulation game.
Featuring full, real-time 3D environments this third installment in the Oddworld series drags away from the traditional 2D side scrolling style of the previous Oddworld games. Munch's Oddysee utilizes the PS2's immense power not only to propel its new 3D engine, but also to expand its A.L.I.V.E (Active Lifeforms In Virtual Environments) experience, a superior AI that was the heart of Abe's Oddysee original popularity. Munch's Oddysee concentrates on a world that is real, a simulation of sort with differing behaviors of characters and the eco-system to achieve a much more "living" impression.

"How to describe this when nothing like it has ever been seen before is quite difficult. Seeing is believing, and nothing I can say now will even come close to giving a half way decent impression of what this experience will be like", -Lorne Lanning (founder of Oddworld Inhabitants)

You will be able to "Gamespeak" and manipulate large numbers of characters in order to have them do your bidding and re-shape your world. The "Gamespeak" will become more highly evolved and smarter than in previous Oddworld games. One thing that is different from the first Oddworld games is that you will be able to command an entire group with the Gamespeak, instead of speaking to everyone you want to command.
Another new feature to Munch's Oddysee is the ability to "possess" mechanical devices, such as cranes etc.

Once again those folks at Oddworld Inhabitants have come up with a quirky plot with a twisted blend of humor and sadness that brought character to the first Oddworld. The story behind Munch's Oddysee is that Munch is the last survivor of his species. He's a Gabbit, and all of the Gabbits have been killed off. The reason for this is that the Glukkons have all developed lung cancer, so they need the Gabbits lungs as substitutes for theirs. But for the poor Gabbits they are not only killed for their lungs but for their eggs, which are considered a delicacy. Yes you guessed it - its Gabbiare! The gourmet Glukkons are quite fond of this very expensive dish and would chose to eat it by the truck load if they had their way. Talk about bad news for the Gabbits.

Expect to see all the old ugly foes (apart from the bats) from the previous games. Including sligs, scrabs and paramites, plus ofcourse new enemies.
Each creature will have its own life cycle that go together to create the Oddworld food chain, which will add a new dimension of realism to the games atmosphere. Some of the new characters will be much larger in scale and some will have strange co-dependent relationships. They will also move in herds.

All you racing and flying nuts will be pleases to know that there will be both land and air vehicles in the game that you can control thanks to the mechanical port Munch has in his skull. Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee is shaping up to be a very impressive title, and hopefully Oddworld Inhabitants will once again stick to their original core formula which made the original Abe's Oddysee so popular.
