Virtual Ocean
PS2 Preview by Shawn Fogarty

Developed by Andnow, this is an unusual type of game. It is an adventure game but the setting is very different from many games out there. Players take the role of playing as various types of sea creatures such as dolphins, sharks and whales. They interact with a whole virtual ecosystem in the underwater world and communicate with other creatures by natural means of dolphin songs and other forms of communication. But what may be a friendly song to one creature may be an act of aggression to another.

The game seems rather innocent in its early development stages but just think of how violent it could turn out to be. Imagine taking the role of a great white shark and coordinating attacks on helpless whales! Wow, I can imagine that this game could get pretty gruesome too ;)

There are not many details on the game's objectives but one thing known is that players must join sects, or clubs that will give you certain goals to accomplish.
There will be many unique features in this game, one of them being inertia. Players will be able to feel water currents pushing on the bodies of whatever creature they are controlling. You can also feel the dolphin thrust out of the water and then splash back in again.
We can expect to see many, very realistic physics in this game which should greatly add to the depth of the gameplay.

The graphics look nice but it is obvious that they are still in their early stages. Currently, the sea creatures in the game look too smooth and artificial so hopefully the developer will be adding more rough, true-to-life textures before the game's completion. If all turns out well, Virtual Ocean should be a very unique and original game for the PS2.
