World Destruction League: Thunder Tanks
PS2 Preview by Shawn Fogarty

One of 3DO's most successful series is blasting its way onto the PS2 gaming scene. Those of you who are familiar with the previous Battle Tanx games will remember that the purpose of the game was to merely survive using brute force against rival clans and such. But in WDL, the world has seen relative order making a comeback. Well, about the only thing that is organized is the newly formed World Destruction League ironically enough. Now, the battlefield of a war torn world is laid out for tank combatants to compete in a deadly competition just for the hell of it! These grueling events will be televised and have play-by-play announcers broadcasting the battles over the wastelands.

Some of the features include: nine tanks and nine competitors to choose from, each with special skills and abilities. Three types of computer controlled drone tanks. Twenty different locations to do battle. Five game modes; three of them are deathmatch, renegade and capture the flag. A variety of special weapons including grenades, guided missiles, holographic projectors and fire blasts and two-player split screen action.

The battles take place all over the world, some of the locations is: Tower of Pisa, Red Square, Ginza District of Tokyo, NORAD and even Atlantis. In WDL you will find a vast selection of tanks, weapons, and competitors with individual personalities that affect their actions on the battlefield made possible by a new dynamic AI system. They even talk and taunt other players.

The screenshots found here are from the PSX not PS2. The developers are planning on major "enhancements" for the PS2 game, details of which they have not released. But you can be sure it will have something to do with graphics ;)
Look for more info on WDL soon.
