Game Notes:
Ok, first note here is a little off topic, but I thought it was weird. Rather than re-do the layout for stats each week, I just saved my layout from my week 3 game against the Giants and I just change the yardage and stuff every week…Ok, here’s the weird part, there wasn’t much to change…several things were EXACTLY the same. I’m not talking w/in 10 yards here, I’m talking EXACTLY. Total Yards were exactly the same, a few other things were as well, but most odd of all, Time of possession was EXACTLY the same, down to the second…freaky…

Well, after the Skins threw the Eagles all off in week 7, Philly got back on track in week 8. The usual, lots of different receivers catching passes, the running game was working, the defense played well, 3rd down conversions and red zone % were dominated by the Eagles, and mcnabb played great without making mistakes.

Coach Vcize used the last couple weeks working on the teams hands, and it paid off this week, with almost no dropped balls. The secondary generally did a bit less of their “standing around on their asses” gimmick, and Shawn Barber continues to put up big numbers and play better than anyone else on the D despite his 69 rating.

If there was one thing coach Vcize could chastise his team about, it was penalties…2 times they held on 3rd and short. And on the first play of the second half, Duce Staley took a five yard pass, made 2 people miss, broke a tackle, and took it the rest of the way for an 80 yard TD, only to have it called back on a holding call away from the play. Brad also got hurt big once on a hold, I think the refs were just flag happy today or something (IMO penalties that you have no control over shouldn’t be included in online play, they got rid of challenges, why not holds/facemasks?).

As far as game summary goes, the Eagles took control early, going up 24-0 at the half. Duce staley had his 80 yard “TD” called back on the first play of the second half, and the Eagles scored once more to put it away, and the rest was pretty much just a run fest. The Eagle D played well today, stuffing both the run and the pass. The Bucs just couldn’t get anything going offensively, even Keyshawn couldn’t get open. And when the Bucs finally did get some momentum, fate seemed to intervene. Dilger caught a pass in double coverage, broke 2 tackes, and took it about 60 yards down inside the Eagle 5. A tackle for a loss, a holding call, and a sack later and the Bucs faced 4th and goal from around the 30. The Eagle LB’s and DB’s were everywhere, and when Brad managed to find an open receiver, Brad Johnson usually overthrew him…when he actually put the ball in there, the WR was usually hit and dropped, though most of the time the Eagle DB’s prevented the receivers from even getting their hands on it.

Another stellar performance by Mcnabb as he continues his push as an MVP candidate with 4 TD’s, 0 mistakes, and a 70% completion percentage.

Week 7 Results

Winning Team: Eagles
Losing Team: Redskins
Score: 35-31 Eagles

Stats: Sorry, but I don't have any stats, I can estimate if you'd like. We got disconnected midway through the 2nd quarter, and then ended up breaking the game into 3 seperate mini-games to get the time right, and I forgot to get the stats in the second mini-game, so things got rather confusing...

Game Summary: Well, I fully expected a defensive battle in this one, and in a way, that's what we had. The score doesn't show it, mainly because this wasn't a battle of stout defenses, but agressive ones. M22j and snoop said their game was ugly last week, but I think this one may have taken the cake, with a total of 10 or 11 turnovers. Two of the Redskins touchdowns were scored by their defense, and there were 21 total points scored in the last 2 minutes, so the defenses played much better than the score shows.

The Eagles were really taken out of their element for the first time this year, making mistakes and not being able to spread the ball around. Mcnabb was flustered all day, the Eagles really had trouble with M22j's great defense.

You can really sum up this game in one word though...momentum. We never really traded TD's on back to back possessions until the end of the game. For the majority of the game, one of us seemed to be in control, then control would switch to the other, etc.

I started things off in control. I read through m22j's old write-ups and saw that Stephen Davis was his leading receiver in pretty much every game, so I put Shawn Barber in a zone on common RB routes. This resulted in Shawn Barber INT's on m22j's first 2 possessions, coupled with another one by Dawkins on his third possesssion, and I had things under control. I was up 7-0 with 4:36 left in the first half, the ball on his 20, and I got the ball first in the 2nd half...

Then, a series of things led to the first momentum swing. A couple of plays after the disconnect, a ball intended for Chad Lewis was batted around between three players, and finally intercepted when it hit Sam Shade in the back of his knee. Shade broke to sidelines, and took the interception to the house to tie the game up at 7.

Things just got uglier for the Eagles from there. The Eagles read a Redskin blitz all, put the ball up for pinkston in single coverage, where Terrell made a great interception. Next possession, Mcnabb read another blitz, hit a wide open Staley in the flat, who not only dropped the ball, but deflected up into the air about 7 yards away, where Sam Shade made another interception that he ran back deep into Philly territory.

The Redskins led 17-7 at this point, and were threatening to score again, when the next momentum shifter hit. Matthews was sacked, fumbled, and it was recovered by the Eagles and run back to the Redskin 30. Mcnabb was injured on the next play, but detmer then hit Freddie Mitchell with a 25 yard strike for a TD to get the Eagles back into the game. The Eagles scored 21 unanswered points, the last of which coming with 2:30 to go, as the Eagles seemed to be in control with a 28-17 lead and little time left.

Meet turning point number three. M22j takes the kickoff, methodically drives down field, and scores a touchdown with 56 seconds left and three timeouts, 28-24 Eagles. Redskins would then try for an onside kick, and fail, but held the Eagles to three and out, using all three of their timeouts, leaving him about 50 seconds and no timeouts.

Here's where perhaps the play of the day comes. The Eagles line up to punt and see the Skins in punt block, so they burn a timeout and get some protection back there for the punter. But then, the worst thing that could've happened...did. High snap to the punter....blocked....run back for a TD! Not only was the punt blocked and run back for a TD, but the Eagles had even burned a timeout to prevent it. 31-28 Redskins.

But alas, there was still hope in the way of 40 seconds or so and 2 timeouts. Lito Sheppard came through with a good kick return, and M22j wasn't one to lie down, so he kept putting pressure on Mcnabb. A few big gains later, and the Eagles were in position to score the game winner...and they did, Pinkston got matched up with Jesse Armstead when the Eagles went 3 wide deep inside the ten and the Skins stuck to a 4-6 defense, and Pinkston was able to beat him.

The Skins still had a little time, but Stephen Davis caught a ball up to around midfield and was held in bounds, as the clock ran out.

Stories of the game:
-momentum
-turnovers (all 1000 of them)
-dropped balls, both teams had lots, Redskins seemed to have more overall, but Eagles seemed to have more in clutch situations. On third down on the Eagles first possession, pinkston had his defender beat deep by a good 4 yards for a huge gain, but dropped it and forced a punt. Redskins receivers dropped alot as well, but did a good job of dropping the ones on first or second down and hauling in the big 3rd down conversions. Lots of passing in this game though, so I guess lots of drops were to be expected.
-red zone offense (both teams were probably around 10%)

Game Notes:
Similar to most Eagles games, with a few minor differences, in large part due to some good coaching by BurlyBear, who gets a lot out of a low-talent Panthers team. The Eagles, as usual, dominated 3rd down conversions and took advantage of red zone opportunities (6 TD’s on 6 possessions). However, Carolina finally cracked the stout Eagle redzone D, going 3/3 with 2 TD’s, becoming the first this year to score on more than 50% of his redzone tries against the Eagle D. The Eagles also kept dominating in turnover differential, causing 4 and giving up 0.

Again, Mcnabb and the offense stepped up. Duce Staley stayed right on average in a season where he is largely overlooked, with 91 yards rushing and 2 TD’s. Mcnabb put up ANOTHER stellar performance, with 4 TD’s (3 pass, 1 rush), and almost 300 yards passing on a 12-15 (that’s right, only 3 incompletions) performance. And once again for Mcnabb, ZERO mistakes. All this in only 3 quarters, as he missed the entire 3rd quarter with an elbow injury. Mcnabb remains in MVP form and the Eagles keep winning. Balance has also been key. The Eagles pass/run ration now sits around 1.1/1 on the season, and remarkably, the Eagles’ 7 touchdowns were scored by 6 different players.

As far as actual game summary goes, the Panthers hung in their for a while, but were forced to air it out, which led to a lot of interceptions. Dropped balls and a heavy rush didn't help the situation either.

Peete/Weinke were under pressure all day, as the Philly front 4 put constant pressure on them even without blitzes in many cases. Peete was knocked out of the game twice.

Burly does well with the team he has, he can definitely pull out some upsets this year. And watch out for him next year when he gets a better team. GG Burly.

Game Notes:
Well, where to begin. I suppose I'll start off as usual, same ole' Eagles' ballgame: Defense.
Once again, the Eagles completely dominated 3rd down conversions and redzone efficiency: going 5/5 in the redzone and for the second time this season, while holding the opposing team to ZERO redzone ATTEMPTS.

The Bills got a couple big plays for TD's on broken coverages in the 1st quarter, as a bit of
rust came out in the Eagles' secondary having not played in a couple weeks.

Kudos to tbkball for putting up 237 total yards and 14 points, both season highs against the
tough Eagle's D, though almost ALL of it came in the 1st quarter. I really hope someone is
keeping tabs on total defense (in terms of yards), so I can see it at the end of the year, as
the Eagle D is averaging giving up well under 200 TOTAL yards a game.

But enough about the D, they get the glory every week. This week I wanna focus on someone
who's been playing absolutely amazing all year, but has been overshadeowed by his own defense:
Donovan Mcnabb. Mcnabb has been putting up MVP like numbers all year, but hasn't had a huge
breakout game to put the league's eye on him yet. With 300+ total yards and 5 total TD's this
week, to go along with ZERO mistakes, he's finally done that. He's also doing a fantastic job
spreading the ball around this year. Every game if you look down the Eagle's list of receivers,
you'll notice that yardage is almost identical between 5 different receivers, and the total TD's
on the season are spread out evenly as well. Defenses just never know who to focus on, and with Mcnabb's legs being an added threat, and Staley running well, the Eagle's just possess too many
weapons at the moment. The D is playing great, and the offense is averaging around 40 a game.. Vcize's only complaint was with the team's hands. Drop balls cost a couple
drives, and LOTS of interceptions were dropped. Expect the Eagle's too work on this in
practice this week in preparation for a very well-playing Carolina team.

Game Notes:
Nothing new here, the Eagles won with the exact same way they've been winning all year...Defense. Once again, the Philly D
held their opponents to under 200 total yards, and to only 3 points. On the season now, in 4 games, the Eagle D has allowed
a TOTAL of 25 points and 600 total yards. Teams have put up higher numbers against other defenses in a single game.

Once again, the Eagles dominated Red zone opportunities, going 6-6 (5 TD's, 1 FG), while holding the Giants to 1-3 (0 TD's,
1 FG). Also, as has been all season, they dominated 3rd down conversions, going 7-10 while holding the Giants to 2-9.

However, coach Vcize was very dissapointed in the play of his receivers, with 10 of Mcnabb's 13 incompletions coming on balls
that Madden recorded as drops, with 4 coming from the sure-handed Chad Lewis. The Giants only deflected 2 passes, the rest were miscue's on the Eagles part, Coach Vcize
has said that they'll be running hands drills in practice this week. On the other side of the ball, the Eagle D recorded 13
deflections to go with 3 int's in another solid performance from the secondary.

Luckily, with the Eagle receivers struggling, Duce Staley finally had the breakout game the Eagles were looking for with
172 total yards and 3 TD's.

The Giants played well, but once again, the Eagle D stepped up, and the Eagles recorded another victory.

Game Notes:
This game was just utter domination by the Eagles' Defense, giving up only 46 total yards, -4 yards passing on 28 attempts.
In three games, the Eagles have not allowed more than 208 total yards.

The lone Dolphin touched came on a kickoff return.

More of the same in terms of how the Eagles have been winning. Philly went 5-10 on third downs, while the fins were held to 2-15. This brings the Eagles season 3rd down conversion percentage to around 60%, while they've held their opponents to around 15%. The Eagles again did not give up a redzone touchdown, though this is largely due to the fact that they never allowed the dolphins, who never crossed the 50, a redzone attempt.

The Eagles blew some early opportunities with some penalties, a 51 yd fg that hit the left upright, and a fluke interception deep in Miami territory.

Mcnabb continues to put up very solid numbers, probably enough to get him nominated for player of the week for the 3rd straight week, but probably not quite enough to win it as usual, as he took a knee on the Miami 3 with a minute and a half left to show that winning is all that matters to him, a team player that should carry this franchise for a long time to come. He again spread the ball out very well, the dolphins never knew who was getting the rock.

Mikej coached a good game, the Eagles D was just on their game today. Brian Dawkins particularly was everywhere at once. Another good win for the Eagles as they prepare for some tough matchups to come.

Game Notes:
Another stout performance by the eagles D, outdoing their oppentns 70%-25% in 3rd down conversions and 100%-33% in red zone scoring, while also holding an explosive Packer offense to under 200 total yards.

The Eagles took advantage of some early GB penalties to go up 7-0, when they took 3 points off the board from a short FG after a running into the kicker penalty, and punched it in for a touchdown.

After reading a blitz and hitting Pinkston for a 24 yd TD, the Eagles went into the half up 17-7, and got the ball first. They drove right down field, but were intercepted on a tipped pass, though the defense got it right back for them and they went up 24-7.

They had a chance to put the nail in the coffin, up 24-7 the Eagles had the ball on the Packer 29 4th and inches. Akers had been hurt early in the game on a roughing the kicker penalty on an extra point, so the Eagles had to go for it. They elected to go for it all on one play, and threw, while GB had a blitz all on. Todd Pinkston was WIDE open, the only guy down field, but Mcnabb missed him. The Eagle D then stepped up its game though, and held the Pack to -8 yards the rest of the way.

Don't be fooled, the Packers played a great game, the Eagle red zone d and ball control offense was just too much to overcome though.

Recap:
Let me start by saying this was the most intense game I've ever coached, with one of the best finishes in history. Snoop out coached me in every aspect, my players were just good enough to make up for it. Anyway, onto the recap...

Early, it looked like no one was going to be able to score, until Thrash broke a tackle and took a pass 90 yards for the score. It looked like philly was in control, at the half they had around 250 total yards to dallas' 40 or so. The 2nd half looked to be much of the same, the eagles took the ball methodically down the field (9-14 3rd down conversions were key), and tacked on a FG...

BUT...holding, rekick. The ensuing FG was no good, 3 points taken off the board.

The Eagles would get the ball back though, and again methodically drive. With 4 minutes left in the game they had the ball on the Dallas 18 leading 14-6. They went for the jugguler, but Edwards jumped a hook route and took it to the house to get the boys back into it. The 2 point conversion was no good, 14-12 with 3 and a half minutes to go.

Eagles got the ball and went 3 and out...

BUT...roughing the passer, they'd get another shot. Again they drove, and on 3rd and 6 with a little over a minute to go Chad Lewis made a clutch 3rd down catch as he had been doing all game..

BUT, he got hurt on the play, stopping the clock and leaving Dallas with all their timeouts.

The Eagles then ran 3 times and kicked a fg to go up 17-12 with 50 seconds left, leaving the cowboys with no timeouts and the game in the hands of the eagles defense, which had stifled the cowboys all game long.

This time however, the cowboys worked their way down field and found themselves on the Philly 15 with 12 seconds left.

On the ensuing play, Brian Dawkins intercepted the ball at the one, but was hit immediately and FUMBLED THE BALL BACK TO THE COWBOYS!!!

Thus, the cowboys retained possession on the Philly 4 yard line with 5 seconds left.

Twice earlier in the game the Cowboys had had 1st and goal inside the 5 and been stopped, so coach Vcize still had faith.

Next play........incomplete, 2 seconds left.

So it all came down to this, 2 seconds left, cowboys trailing 17-12 with the ball on the Philly 4 yard line. Snoop read the zone and sent Kenyon Rambo over the middle

and threaded it into him

Brian Dawkins however

leveled him in a head on collision

and the ball popped out and fell incomplete as time expired.

Didn't I say this would be the game of the week?
