Player of the Game: Paul Edinger Game Winning Field Goal off the crossbar with no time remaining/ Mike Brown 2 INTs one for a TD
In my excitement after the game winning field goal of about 45 yards I accidentally hit quit game. I dont have my stats but it was a decent day all around for the Bears on offense. Miller threw no picks and the A-Train was running well. We did get hit with a safety in the third, which sucked.
Packers 7 7 2 8 --24
Bears 7 7 10 3 --27
Game Summary:
The Bears returned healthy and ready to go for their first game since the bye week. On the first series Mike Brown picked one off and the Bears offense got Marty Booker in for a score. Then the Packers, relying heavily on the overrated Ahman Green, scored right back.
The Packers took the lead in the second quarter but then let the Bears tie things up again. The Packers missed a short FG with no time remaining in the half.
I was pretty pleased at halftime being tied, said Coach Piche, They really had the ground game working but I knew that wed step it up in the second half.
And the defense did just that. Unfortunately Jim Miller got hit with a safety making the score 16-14 Packers. The defense held though and the Packer kicker missed another short FG. Then the Bears bounced back and got a 46-yard FG from Edinger to take the lead. The next series Favre threw another pick to Brown and this time he returned it for the score. The Bears now led 24-16.
The Packers fought hard though and finally cracked though with a touchdown by Bubba Franks with less than a minute to go. Ahman Green ran in the two-point conversion and the Pack had tied the game at 24.
I knew I had enough time, said Jim Miller, the question was who are our go to guys?
Miller gave the ball to go to guy A-Train and Booker. They got to the Packer 39 with just 8 seconds to go.
I knew Paul (Edinger) would need about five more yards for a shot, said coach Piche, I was just hoping we could run a play and get down in that time, cause we still had two timeouts.
The next pass was to Marcus Robinson who shook his defender and ran out of bounds at the 28 with 2 seconds to go.
I could have gotten him more yards, said Robinson of the play, but I knew we had to get that clock stopped.
Paul Edinger then came out and nailed a 45-yarder of the crossbar and through for the 27-24 win! The stadium went ballistic. Fans rushed the field and took down the very goal posts that were just the focus of the entire Midwest. Coach Piche spoke after the game.
How bout that one huh? Whooo, that was a close one. I really liked our guys effort out there today. No one ever gave up and thats what you need to stay in games. We came out in the first half, stayed with them figured out what they like to do and then in the second half we exploited that and got it done.
When asked about the last play where they ran a quick pass to Robinson Piche said this.
Well Marcus told me his guy was playing off, so I told Jim to get one out there quick and let him get a few and get down. When he shook his man it made the field goal more realistic.
When asked about the play of Ahman Green he said.
Ahman Green played outstanding today. He never fumbled, which I hear he likes to do, and he ran guys over today. I, and our team for that matter, didnt know he was capable of a day like he had today. Next time well be ready.
When asked about the post game celebration by the fans and team he said this.
We were so excited when that thing banged through. These fans know the importance of this rivalry and they felt every play. Unfortunately in our exuberance we knocked our stat guy out. He got trampled. Hes ok now but some where in the fray he lost all of our stats.
When asked about next week Piche said this.
Next week weve got a tough one against a good Redskin team, but these same rabid fans will be back here for it and if our defense plays well well come away with the W.
So even though it didnt snow in Chicago, the game counts with a 27-24 win for the Bears over the Packers. Next week the Bears stay home for their first battle with the NFC east as they invite in the Redskins.

Game Summary:
Bears out do the Seahawks onOffense?!?
Seattle was a buzz for a battle of two teams favored to be at the edge of the NFC playoff picture. The Bears are heading in to the bye week and thus were hoping to enter that on a high note.
The game started out badly for the Bears when a kickoff was miss-handled pinning them deep. The great field position for the Seahawks cashed in when Dilfer hit Alexander for a 19 yard score with 4:56 to go in the first. The Bears came back but couldnt quite get in to scoring range. Finally they broke through when again Chandler came in for an injured Jim Miller, and again on the first play threw a TD. This time to Marcus Robinson for a 25 yard score.
Then the boringness of the game came forward. Back and forth they went with turnovers and defense holding. All that came of the rest of the first quarter was a 22 yard field goal by Ryan Lindell. It was 10-7 Seahawks at the half.
Well I felt Jim wasnt one hundred percent so I asked Chris (Chandler) to take over, said Piche of his halftime strategy, we knew what they wanted to do on offense and we knew they wouldnt be scoring much more. The challenge was finding a way around their great defense.
Both teams defenses were still in charge as the third came and went without a score. Then in the fourth with the Bears driving Chris Chandler went down with injury. That forced Jim Miller back in to the game and he led the drive down and hit David Terrell for a 10 yard score to put the Bears on top, 14-10.
Right as Terrell came down with that ball, Chris said he was taped up and ready to go, said Piche of Chandlers eventual return to the line up, I felt like Jim still wasnt feeling well so we went back to Chris.
Then the Differ was picked off on a third and long and the Bears were in field goal range. Trying to run down the clock A. Thomas broke through the line on a third and short and rushed 19 yards for the score at the two-minute warning.
When I saw him cut back and I saw that hole I knew we had the game, said Chris Chandler.
The Bears defense held from there giving the Bears a 21-10 lead. No shocker here, Coach Piche spoke after the game.
I was amazed that we came in here today, did what we had to do, despite injuries, and put up 21 points on offense against this D. The A-Train ran real well today and even though we had 3 turnovers I thought our offense did a good job coming through when they needed to. My one question for Coach Hurricane would have to be why keep running? Alexander was just stymied all day. They rely on the run and we rely on stopping it. We did that and thus we won. I thought Chris did a great job coming in a leading this offense. This bye week comes at a great time for us so we can get Jim healthy. If I dont think hes one hundred percent in two weeks Ill start Chris, but Jims still our man. Were 4-2 and feeling confident that the NFC North crown will be ours. Obviously were doing a lot better than we though at the beginning of the season. Our team has adjusted a learned quickly. I think coming out of the bye week youre going to see this same Bears team you saw today in the fourth quarter. Well now Ive got to go. Ive got a week to relax and as soon as I get back to Chicago Ill be headed for Ditkas.
So the Bears bounce back from a defeat with another comeback win and with confidence building the windy city with stood a Hurricane and heads in to the bye week 4-2.

Game Summary:
The defense doesnt come to play in Denver!!
The game started out with a tired Bears team, from their late night journey to Denver, looking sluggish on both sides of the ball. The Broncos scored on their opening drive as Griese hit the great white hype, Kasper, for an 11 yard score. The Bears then continued to be awful as they allowed Griese to find Anderson out of the backfield with 1:57 to go in the half.
Then Jim Miller had the ball and started a drive but then got injured and Chris Chandler came in. The next play was a 58-yard strike to Dez White to get the Bears on the board. Of course then Brian Griese still had 31 seconds and with the day he was having that was enough time. He led them down the field for a field goal.
We had five guys around the ball a lot, said Azumah, but somehow they always got it.
Brian Griese isnt a good quarterback, said coach Piche, but you wouldnt know it by looking at the game today. He sure fooled us
The second half looked good for a Bears comeback early has they intercepted Griese and then got the score when the A-Train rumbled in from 2 yards.
I knew (Griese) would throw a pick at some point, said Piche, but even though we got that it didnt seem to phase him.
Then just before the end of the third Griese found Sharpe for a 9 yard score and the Broncos opened up to a 24-14 lead. That lead would stand, but a key play that happened late was when the Broncos had the ball at the Bear 36 and on 4 and 6 elected to punt. A penalty for running in to the kicker then brought the ball to the 31 and instead of kicking the field goal the Broncos went for it on fourth down under 2 minutes to go.
We dont appreciate that, said Coach Piche about the late game move, Wed already packed it in with about 3 minutes to go. I told them to run the clock out and yet they still kept going. Then when we finally held, the jackass goes for it on fourth down? Yeah lets just say I wont be sending a Christmas card to Denver this year. They had us, they beat us, and they were better out there than us today than us. I just would have appreciated some kneel downs or something.
Jim Miller came back in, in the fourth quarter but questions now rise as to how hurt he is.
Jim hurt his foot. All I know is that he could run on it and he asked if he could go back in. I said to clear it with our medical staff and he was back in. They did and thus he went back. Hell start the next game.
We asked coach Piche what really had him steamed about todays loss.
A lot of aspects get to me about the game today. Our offense moved the ball well but couldnt quite cash in. That annoyed me although I thought we did pretty well there all things considered. The biggest thing today was the defense. They were just not here today. I mean before the end of the half less than a minute to go and they get in to easy field goal range? We had all kinds of guys out there in coverage. Nobody stepped up and made a play.well the Denver receivers did. It was a joke. 102 yards for Terrell Davis. Sure hes a great back, I dont want to take anything away from him, but our defense is better than that. So in answer to your question, I guess you could say that the defense will be taking extra laps this week. Im not going to blame the weather or any of that (expletive deleted). We just didnt have it on both sides of the ball and to win against the best team in the AFC youve got to have both. I wish they wouldnt have pissed me off late in the game because Id love to have wished Viper well. Hes got a great team and I hope the best for them from here on out.
So the Bears fall to 3-2 and next go even further west to battle the Seahawks. Of course after a tough week of practice you can bet that the Bears will whip in to Seattle like a Hurricane!

Game Summary:
The Bears first road game sure was a tight one, but this time it was the offense that won the game for the Bears!
The Bears started with the ball first and Jim Miller threw a pick. The Saints got a field goal out of it and then gave it back to the Bears. After another drive failed the Saints scored on a 65 yard strike to Pathon making the score 10-0 Saints at 1:37 in the first quarter.
The Bears then responded with a great drive that culminated with a 2 yard pass to back up tight end Luther Broughton. The drive had a great mix of run and pass, and the Bears looked as good on offense as they had all season. But the Saints struck back. They added a field goal with just 1:01 to go in the half, and after a quick stop of the Bears they added another one at the end of the half to lead 16-7 at the break.
I knew we had something going on offense, said coach Piche, The question was is Jim going to be able to make it work again in the second half.
The second half started and the teams went back and forth until the Bears drove deep again. They decided to take the field goal on fourth and goal from short making the score 16-10 at 2:11 in the third.
I wanted to keep us that one big play away, said Piche, I knew the defense had one in them.
And they did indeed as the next play from scrimmage was intercepted by R.W. McQuarters for a touchdown.
The whole bench was going nuts, said Anthony Thomas, It inspired us all the way through. It was definitely the turning point.
With the Bears up they played ball control offense and added a field goal with 4:32 to go in the game. The Saints, however, were not done! They put together a great drive that ended with 51 seconds to go when Brooks hit Reed for a 22 yard score. The Saints were up 23-20 and it was up to Jim Miller and the offense.
Wed come so far backI wasnt about to let our teams effort go to waste, said Jim Miller.
So Miller worked quickly with 3 timeouts and needing only a field goal to tie. He hit Anthony Thomas for a long gain and he got out of bounds. Later Miller hit Fred Baxter to put them in field goal range. Then with just 17 seconds remaining Miller hit Terrell for a 9 yard touchdown giving the Bears the 27-23 lead. The Saints then got the ball back and made a great effort as the ball was batted down at the goal line to preserve the Bears win! Coach Piche spoke after the game.
I couldnt be more proud of this offense today. Jim especially. He threw that pick early but he kept his head in the game from there on. He made good decisions and he won us that ball game. Thats the kind of things we need him to do. Today was great for him because it shows him he can do it. I know the team was ready today after being picked to lose by the so-called experts. We showed them today that the Bears are a team people have to take seriously. Were not just here to win two games anymore. Weve done that. We want the NFC North Crown, and the A-Train and the Bears arent stopping until we do it!
So a great game for the Bears team all around. A major confidence booster at the right time. The Bears travel to Denver to take on the Broncos this Sunday at 4 EST.

Game Summary:
Bears finally lose, Coach Piche irate!
From snowy Champagne, Illinois the game started out with a back and forth flow. Both teams trying to feel each other out. Finally in the second quarter Steve Christie put San Diego on the board with a 20-yard field goal, at 5:29.
Well our defense was doing its part, but the offense was awful. We needed a breakthrough of some sort, said Anthony Thomas.
Then Jim Miller did it again. Thats right. He threw it to the other team for a touchdown. Beckett returned the interception 60 yards to put the Chargers up 10-0 with 3:28 to go in the half.
We needed to respond with some points. I knew Id just cost us seven so it motivated me to get it back, said Miller.
Miller then led a fantastic drive that capped off with a 13-yard strike to Booker for the score. Then the Bears defense held and a bad punt put the Bears in position to score again. They settled for a 23 yard field goal as time expired making it 10-10 at the half.
We were lucky to be tied at the half with the way the offense played, but we knew we still had them on defense, said Defensive coach Nick Soutiere.
The games defining moment was when Jim Miller again threw an interception. This time Anthony Thomas caught up with the Charger defender at about the six-yard line. The Bears defense could not hold though so close to its own goal line. Brees hit Tomlinson for a 4 yard score. Although there were glimpses of hope for a Bears score several times, Jim Miller could not muster another score and the Chargers held on for a 17-10 win. A steamed Coach Piche talked after the game.
You know, all this week I talked about mistake free football..that cost us the game now didnt it? There were portions of that second half where I wondered why we pay Jim Miller, but then hed complete a third and long and change my mind. Then the next play hed take too much time and get sacked, and lose my faith all over again.
When asked if Coach Piche would bench Miller he said this.
Hell no! If he wants to throw away games then he can deal with the consequences. He has to walk around this town too. If he wants to be the butt of jokes and the laughing stock of the NFL thats his business. Hes a grown man and hell learn to either get through it this season or well go get some other bum we can at the very least pay less money to suck like that. How can a guy do so well for most of the game but continuously throw away points? Thats my question for you.
When asked about the Chargers team Piche said this.
Well I feel like I know what theyre going through. Good defense, bad offense. Today our offense was worse, end of story. They played a hell of a game and my hat goes off to em. Coach Jiggs had his team ready and they did what they had to do.
So its no mystery that Coach Piche is mad, but will his team be able to rebound next week? More importantly will Jim Miller be able to leave his house this week?

Game Summary:
From Illinois the game started out with the Bears making a statement on defense, which would set the tone for the day. They stopped the Raiders for a three and out and then took the field and drove right down for a score when Jim Miller hit Leon Johnson for a 5 yard touchdown.
The game couldnt have started any better for us, said coach Piche, We had done everything perfectly.
But then Jim Miller finally remembered the days in the pre-season when hed throw the ball to the other team. He did that on the Bears next possesion and Buchanon promptly returned it for a touchdown tieing the score at 7.
I thought, by god here we go again. But coach Piches Bears came right back and Edinger kicked a 49 yarder to put the Bears back on top. Hed add another one just before halftime to but the Bears up 13-7.
At halftime I just looked at the scoreboard and couldnt believe we were only up 6. Wed pushed them around all half, said Piche.
Finally the Oakland offense did something as late in the third they scored when Gannon hooked up with Porter for a 22 yards score.
Now our offense started to go to sleep and they scored, and Im thinking good god now were down? Weve got to win this game.
Early in the fourth quarter the Bears defense got tough and intercepted Gannon for the second time and Warrick Holdman took it to the house. The two point conversion attempt failed.
Our defense just stepped up in the fourth. They saved our ass today, said Piche.
The defense held the rest of the game and the Bears ran out the clock to win 19-14.
It wasnt pretty but we did it, said Jim Miller, but I cant have many more days like that and expect us to win.
So the Bears matched their coaches hopeful win total for the season just two games in, and now they expect a little more in Chicago.
Week 2 Results
Week 1 Results
(Piche, Please Use the correct format when posting your game results.) Winning Team: Bears
Losing Team: Lions
Final Score: 31-21 Bears
Game Summary:
From snowy Illinois, the game started with much confusion from the Lions side of the field as they realized they were going to be playing seven minute quarters rather than five.
They tried to get in our head early by frustrating us and telling us the quarters were too long, said coach Piche, But we werent going to let that stop us.
The Bears did look frazzled though as the Lions took the ball and marched right down the field. With 3:42 left in the first quarter McMahon hit Crowell from one yard out to take the 7-0 lead.
I was amazed our defense just let them dominate that first quarter. It didnt look good for us early, said Piche.
But the Bears came back with a drive of their own that culminated with a 2-yard Leon Johnson score with 4:02 left in the second. The drive was a good mix of runs by Anthony Thomas and two key grabs from Marty Booker.
It was simply the best drive weve ever had, said Jim Miller, We just did what we had to do.
Their hopes were soon squashed as on the very next play from scrimmage turned out a 60 yard pass from McMahon to Crowell.
That one was my bad, said coach Piche, I sent too many guys.
The Bears then did something they almost never do. They struck back. At 2:37 Anthony Thomas took a pass out of the backfield and rumbled 46 yards in to the endzone. The train knocked out Corey Harris, who would return, on the run and Illinois went nuts!
I was just feeling in today, said the A Train, If coach Piche is going to give me the ball Im going to do my best to make things happen.
At that point I felt like things were completely backwards from the preseason. We couldnt stop them and they couldnt stop us, said Piche.
The Lions then missed a rather short field goal. The Bears then put together a small drive that ended with a 50 yard field goal from Paul Edinger with 48 seconds to go until the half. It gave the Bears the lead 17-14.
I knew I had that distance, said Edinger, I was worried about the ball placement in that snow.
The Lions roared back and drove deep in to Bear territory. But Mike Brown picked off McMahon near the goal line and returned it 98 yards for the score.
I just made a great jump on it, said Brown, Then I headed for the house.
So at the half the Bears had a 24-14 lead.
I told them I wanted to play ball control offense and focus on getting this win, said Piche of his halftime speech.
The speech held true as the teams kept holding each other and despite another missed field goal by the Lions not much from the Bears. Then in the fourth things started to happen again for the Bears as the run game started to wear down the defense. They worked into the red zone and Miller hit Robinson for a 20 yard strike with only 4:06 to go in the game. The Bears led 31-14. The Lions scored on a 14 yard pass to Crowell with only 10 seconds remaining to make the final 31-21 Bears!
I cant believe it, said Miller of his no interception preformance, I actually played well today.
