NBA 2K2 review - Comments (0)

We added a review of Sega’s latest basketball game:

Let's just say, if you play this game on simulation, you better know how to hoop! I found myself down by 20 points at the half because I expected to run and gun all day. Warning, these teams will see what you are trying to do and stop you cold thanks to some intelligent A.I. algorithms. There are so many offensive and defensive plays in here to shake a stick at. Use them and more importantly learn what works for your team.

Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex review - Comments (0)
Posted by @ 3:41 AM, EST
We also added a review of Traveller's Tales’ platformer Crash Bandicoot:

Once you get past the god-awful load times (you will someday, keep waiting), the game’s not bad. In fact, it’s just as high quality as it has ever been, it just feels old. More emphasis is given on the stages where Crash controls a vehicle, and he’s got some new toys to pilot. A mech suit, jeep, submarine, and even a giant hamster ball are all tools in his quest to defeat Dr. Cortex. You can even control Coco, who is Crash’s sister in a few platforming levels.

ESPN NFL Primetime 2002 review - Comments (0)
Posted by @ 4:08 AM, EST
We added a review of Konami’s football game:

Not as strong as the features list is Primetime’s gameplay. By far its biggest problem is its sub-standard AI performance. While it might not appear to be too horrible to the casual pigskin fan, anyone who plays a significant amount of video football will see things that are way off. Catching passes seems to leave too much to chance, especially when the difficulty is bumped up a few notches. On the higher levels it’s not uncommon to see Jerry Rice drop a short pass with nobody near him - it’s the computer’s way of keeping things close.

Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness - Comments (3)
Posted by @ 7:13 AM, EST
Aaron checked out the next Tomb Raider game at Eidos event at Legion of Honor in San Francisco:

Not much was told about the story, but what we did get to see showcased some surprising elements of what will be Laras darkest adventure yet. Both Eidos and Core were adamant that the new Lara has become Darker, Harder, and less tolerant. Helping to create a new attitude and personality for Lara, The Angel of Darkness will present the player with many choices on who to trust, or who to help in given situations.

PaRappa The Rapper 2 review - Comments (0)
Posted by @ 7:13 AM, EST
We added a review of Sonys music game PaRappa The Rapper 2:

The game offers 8 musical levels of gameplay in a variety of modes including Single Player, Vs. Player and Vs. Computer. While the single player experience is rather short, players will spend a lot of time in the revamped two-player mode. Here players are able to freestyle a bit throughout a track, which forces their friends to follow along to the changes constantly being made on the fly. In addition, there are new practice and bonus levels to be found throughout the game to hone your rapping skills. These extra levels do add some variety to single player mode.

Heres a bit of the press release:

We are delighted to align ourselves more closely in name with our publishing arm, Rockstar Games, said Andrew Semple, Studio Director of Rockstar Studios. Giants: Citizen Kabuto review - Comments (0)
Posted by @ 7:42 AM, EST
We added a review of Interplays adventure game Giants:

While each mission has variance, the game comes down to an in depth shooting and slashing experience. At times we wondered if we were ever going to finish a level. Thankfully, the humor kept us plugging away. Most of your time is spent in a third-person perspective with the odd first person mission thrown in. Of the three species, we found Kabuto to be the most fun and gratifying.

Superman interview - Comments (0)
Posted by @ 7:41 AM, EST
Superman homepage posted an interview with Rob Smith, the Senior Producer responsible for the up-coming PS2 Superman game.
Heres a slice:

Q: What do you think fans will most like about this new Superman game? What are you most proud of about the game?

A: Graphically the game is as close as possible to the animated series, our Lead Artist, Mark, has been obsessive about it (he even runs around the office in a red cape ;-). From a gameplay point of view, the player has access to all of the powers from the start...we came to the conclusion that people buying a Superman game wanted just that, not something with contrived pick ups to give you an ability.
Also, the size of the levels is really impressive, there's really a sense of scale! Oh, and bearing in mind you play the World's Strongest Man, when you hit someone you really HIT someone!

Jonny Moseley Mad Trix review - Comments (0)
Posted by @ 7:15 AM, EST
We added a review of 3DOs freestyle skiing game:

As with most extreme sports games, visuals are a nice addition to complement competent gameplay. Unfortunately the gameplay in Mad Trix is also faltered. To make these kind of games work you need to have control that is smooth and responsive, combined with an intricate trick system that is loaded with a variety of modes. In Mad Trix the control is rough and unresponsive when coupled with the sloppy graphics engine. As a result, we found ourselves swerving all over the place.

Frequency review - Comments (0)
Posted by @ 5:19 AM, EST
We added a review of Harmonixs music game, Frequency:

The meat of the game is found in the Game Mode, where you must survive by quickly activating tracks to keep you and the music alive. Score enough points and you will progress through each stage. Perhaps the coolest feature in Frequency is its Remix Mode. Here you have the opportunity to remix samples from the major techno, rock, house, drum 'n' bass, hip hop, trance and turntable stars featured in the game. Once you have finished your remix, you are able to import it into the Game Mode competition. Alternatively, you can organize and play your new creations in the Frequency Jukebox.

James Bond 007: Agent Under Fire review - Comments (9)
Posted by @ 6:27 AM, EST
We added a review of EA’s latest Bond game:

The visual end of things is fine. The gameplay on the other hand is nothing more than a glorified arcady first person shooter. EA's decision not to go with violent visuals makes the experience feel very watered down. As James Bond you must go through just a measly 12 missions to stop international terrorists. All of the usual gadgets are present along with 007's sexual charm. The problem is the charm mostly comes across as cheesy one liners and the all of the gadgets, while neat, are no brainer items.
