Blood Omen 2

Eidos has once again delivered us an epic title that promises the great graphics that we have become accustomed to seeing in their past blockbuster games. BO2 gives us that and much more, but first lets look at the graphics. The environments in this game are huge, just as we have been used to seeing in the past titles that are related to this series. They are well detailed and they do come to life. The slums of Meridian look real grimy and you can almost smell the stench in the air as you first feed on the lost souls that inhabit this decrepit town.

Britney's Dance Beat
The gameplay is bit of a mixed bag as well. On the one hand THQ tried to devise a different way to present the gameplay. They came up with a variation of Tecmo's Bust-A-Groove mechanics with the addition of a circular display which adds something different to the mix. As the disc moves in a circular motion, players must line up the proper button and direction sequence as the spinner passes over a particular button press. As in past rhythm games, you are assessed for accuracy by being given a perfect, good, poor and missed score for each move. For the first few plays this takes some getting used to but once you have the knack of it, the real challenges start to begin.

Deus Ex The Conspiracy
The main character is J.C. Denton a rough 007 type of individual who prefers to take care of his enemies secretly and quietly. There is the option to blow your way through missions with run and gun tactics, but that method forces confrontations with some very formidable soldiers, which will more than likely not keep you alive for very long. The game rewards those players with the smarts to take out each threat one at a time, using electric rods, gas grenades and sniper rifles as your weapons of choice. You can interact with every single thing in the environment. Some items are useless while others will find their own creative uses. The biggest playability tactic is the on-going ability to upgrade Denton's various abilities.

Lethal Skies
The worst part though is the control, which accounts for nearly all of the games difficulty. More often than not you end up flying into the ground rather than blowing stuff up because of it. Although Asmik Ace skewed towards realism, I never felt like I was flying a high-tech jet. When your speed gets low, you can kiss your handling goodbye.

Star Wars Racer Revenge
If you have played the original game that was ported to the PS2 last year, then Racer Revenge will feel very similar and that is a good thing. In many ways Racer Revenge is to the original Racer as SSX Tricky was to SSX. Racer Revenge takes the best elements of the original and refines them to the next level. Therefore, Racer Revenge is not necessarily a new game but rather a reworked title with a number of upgrades. On of those upgrades is a stronger focus on pod combat. Being able and sometimes encouraged to ram opponents to their death makes the game seem more like Episode I. In addition, taking out opponents at times will give you more tugruts to spend at Watto's upgrade shop. Therefore, you can approach each race differently.

Mister Mosquito review - Comments (1)

We added a review of Eidos Mister Mosquito:

The R3 analog stick must be rotated to suck the blood. It is very interesting because you have to control the frequency of how fast or slow the blood is drawn out. If you go too fast your host will become aware of your presence and then SPLAT!! If your too slow, then you may still take to long and then again SPLAT. I found it to be very neat, this concept is unique and makes the player feel like they are really controlling the life of a mosquito. So even if you are not highly interested in this type of game, the game play alone can have you hooked.

2002 FIFA World Cup

Gameplay has never been an issue for EA Sports but rather than sit back on its laurels, the developers pushed forward to refine the physics and improve the passing system which now rewards accuracy and practice over aggressiveness and blind button mashing. The play is similar to this year's FIFA 2002: Road To The World Cup with the addition of 'Air Play" which delivers intuitive one-button headers, volleys, scissor kicks, juggling and more. The game is definitely easy to pick up and play for anyone. This bodes well as the most fun to be had with this game is surrounded by friends.

Mad Maestro
The sound in this game will score high marks in this category. The music in this game is great! It is great to see how this title has implemented classic music into their own story line and have it so entertaining. Young audiences will be introduced to the great Ludwig van Beethoven, Piotr Tchaikovsky, Johannes Brahms, and other great classical music composers. The music is very vibrant and mood setting to the story line of this title. Another great feature that was neat to see was whenever the music is not played properly, then you hear certain instruments that begin to sound off key. The audience reaction is very much in tune with the musical performance. Which in turn goes along great with the visual presentation of the performance and story.

Red Card Soccer 2003
The game plays fairly well considering the onslaught you must endure to move the ball up and down the field. Thankfully the developers have included a number of special moves and shot options for the offensive strategy. This in turn makes the game fun to play and experiment with. There are some nifty camera movements when certain button combinations are pushed. This time-warp camera effect delivers realistic replay animations and allows for increased shooting velocity when gamers approach the scoring range. The actual control is easy enough for anyone to pick up and master in no time. The key is learning how to be efficient with all of the special moves as not to get burned by your opponent. To do this, players must use their turbo and associated super human moves conservatively and timely.

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2002
The gameplay has a surprisingly arcade feel to it. It is sensible, easy and fast to utilize. The best feature to hit a golf game and it has been a long time coming is how EA Sports has changed the shot interface. The usual triple tap golf interface that has been used for years has now been replaced by a more sensible method that utilizes the Dual Shock 2's analog stick. To swing you simply pull back on the right analog stick, and then push forward. This gives the player the ultimate control to perfect shots.

Triple Play 2002
The fielders move like they are jogging through wet cement and when they finally reach the ball they pause for no apparent reason before throwing it to the necessary cut-off man. To try and snag a long hit ball with finesse rarely occurs even when using speedy outfielders. On the positive side of things the commentary is now covered by long time sports veterans Bob Costas and Harold Reynolds. Since this is Costas' first time out in a video game it is quite obvious as his announcing does not come across real enough. It sounds very staged and he does not sound to be into the project.
